Internship Credit Risk

ING Bank

Ich möchte mich bewerben

We are looking for an energetic intern that wants to help us update our Credit Risk policies (theory) and help us improve the bank by testing whether the people that work for ING adhere to these policies (practice). Our Credit Risk Policy team works from our head office in Amsterdam (Bijlmerdreef 24). The role is full-time (36 hours), hybrid (2-3 days from the office), and we pay a market-based internship fee (each month). Internship duration is 6 months. Start date is April or May 1st.

The Opportunity

Credit Risk at a bank manages the risk whether a customer won’t pay back the money they owe (for instance a mortgage, credit card or a company loan). As you can imagine, this means it is the biggest risk that banks face, and we spend a lot of time and energy to figure out the best ways to make sure our client pays back the €642 billion they owe us, while keeping the interest of our clients and society into account as well. Our team makes the credit risk policies for the entire bank which provides the bankers with rules and guidance how they should manage this risk. We also do quality assurance to check whether our policies are properly implemented/executed. We oversee ~70 different policies/procedures and work in groups to create and update these documents annually.

The internship is a great opportunity to learn how a bank works, help us think about how we can improve our processes, and figure out where things are going wrong and suggest improvements.

The Team

Our team is very diverse, international, energetic, and smart, but we always welcome new inspiration. We have 20 team members of which about half are international. There are people with a lot of experience that will have an answer to almost any question, but there are also people that have just graduated and are starting their career. It’s a good mix that allows us to work together on the complex topics we are responsible for, but we also catch up frequently at the bar around the corner.

What you'll do

  • Work in groups to update our Credit Risk policies that ING globally must adhere to.
  • Participate in quality assurance to ING’s distressed debt management policies.
  • Collaborate with and be trained by junior and senior policy experts.
  • Meet people outside our team to discuss our policies, which is good for your network.

How to succeed

To take on this challenging and rewarding opportunity, you’ll need:

  • A Master or Bachelor student (3rd year minimum) with a strong interest in banking
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High ambition and energy level.
  • Organisational and project management skills.
  • Fluency in English, Dutch not required.

Rewards and benefits

This is a great opportunity to train with highly skilled people who are experts in their field. You’ll do a lot and learn a lot – not only about credit risk and the bank, but also about yourself and whether this type of environment is right for you.

You’ll also benefit from:

  • Internship allowance of 700 EUR based on a 36 hour work week
  • Your own work laptop
  • Hybrid working
  • Personal growth and challenging work with endless possibilities
  • An informal working environment with innovative colleagues
