Senior Product Manager for Cloud: Cassandra platform

Ich möchte mich bewerben

In the Cloud tribe, in the Data Services area a position of Senior Product Manager for Cloud: Cassandra platform has become available.

The team

The purpose of the Global Tribe Cloud is to build and run the target infrastructure platform in a (private) cloud delivery model. This delivery model is based on multi-tenant, self-service, pay-per-use capabilities for application DevOps teams.

Tribe Cloud comprises five Areas:

  • Infrastructure as a Service
  • Data Services
  • Container Services
  • Cloud API Management
  • Integration Services

The Cassandra Keyspace as a Service (KaaS) platform is part of the Area Data Services and is all about providing DevOps teams of ING worldwide with Cassandra databases on a central platform. The Cassandra squad consists of engineers in the Netherlands and in the Philippines (Manilla). The team takes responsibility for productizing new versions, delivers patches and creates new features. In 2025 and 2026 there is a challenging new assignment to renew the architecture, and to offer the service based on VMs instead of bare metal. You will be driving this initiative.

Job description

Together with the squad, the architect and IT Area Lead you set the goals and work on a strategy to achieve those goals. You help the squad achieving those goals. You take ownership for the agreed solution, ensuring that solutions delivered meet customer and business needs whilst adhering to legal, risk and compliance requirements of the bank.

You will not be HR responsible for the engineers in the squad, because that responsibility is with the four chapter leads that we have. You will regularly align with those chapter leads.

Key responsibilities

Together with a squad of 7 engineers you are responsible for the future of the Cassandra Keyspace as a Service offering and for staying within our risk appetite:

  • Providing clarity to the team with clear goals.
  • Manage risk on the service/product you provide.
  • Manage the delivery roadmap of the product, which will require much alignment with other squads, in NL and outside NL.
  • Take ownership of the product backlog by creating user stories and features with business value identified on each item.
  • Keep the stakeholders informed on the Product Roadmap and the progress of the feature delivery and upcoming releases. You will chair consumer boards.
  • Promote a clear product vision which has the customer as the focus, while maintaining a standardized solution.
  • Together with 8 other Product Owners of Area Data Services you will be in risk and portfolio wall meetings, where you will share your progress, challenges and lessons learned.
  • Work together with our chapter leads to make sure the squad consists of the right people and is performing well.

How to succeed

You are an energetic and proactive Product Owner with a true passion for IT and “can do” mentality. You have a decent understanding of Software Engineering and continuous delivery. You are a natural team player who forms relationships based on social skills rather than hierarchical structure. You can easily switch context from engineers to auditors to management. You take ownership of Cassandra Keyspace as a Service that the squad provides to tenants.

We understand you will probably not tick every box, but do not let that hold you back from applying!
Our ideal new colleague has:

  • Experience in owning an infrastructure platform, and maximizing the service value that the platform delivers
  • Experience with database products. Experience with the Cassandra is an advantage.
  • Experience as a Product Manager / Product Owner/ Agile Business Analyst within an international, complex, technology based agile environment.
  • Experience in analysis, strong documentation skills and good ability to break down requirements into epics and user stories.
  • An inspiring passion in your presentations and in interactions with stakeholders.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure is an advantage.
  • Higher education in (Information) Technology or work experience that demonstrates you operate on this level.
  • Excellent command of English language. Dutch language skills is an advantage but not a must have.
