Your role & work environment

Within Financial Management we perform triple A+ double C activities (Accounting, Analyzing, Advising, Controlling & Change). We are proud about our craftmanshipto deliver accurate & timely accounts, finance advice for treasury, end-to-end cost management (from invoice to advice), support for the reporting teams, coordination of controls over financial accounting and reporting in Finance & the Bank, advice on policies applications and manage all change projects to keep our supporting systems and databases up to standard.

As Head of Financial Management, you lead a cluster  of teams of nearly 100 employees in Belgium and nearly 20 employees in the ING HUB in Manila, which have the same or related purpose to gather, analyze, interpret, and report financial and managerial data. They also advise on the financial consequences of major decisions and make recommendations targeted at improving and safeguarding financial results.

You can leverage on the expertise of your teams - CoE Cost Management & Advice, CoE Financial Accounting Control & Advice, CoE Control and the Tribe Finance Reporting – to reach these goals.

You coach and motivate your teams to provide top quality services, aiming for continuous improvement of the accounting, internal control and management reporting processes.

You work in close collaboration with the colleagues in the CoE Reporting, Finance Business Advice and the colleagues within Group Finance.

You effectively manage the relationship with the external auditor and develop excellent supporting relationships with different business lines and tribes within the Bank.

You report to the CFO and are member of the CFO Leadership Team and have a standing invitation to the Audit and Risk Committee of the Bank.

Your day-to-day

  • Lead the development and implementation of strategy for Financial Management anticipating complex issues, challenges, and opportunities, and ensuring integration with global Finance and ING Belgium strategy.
  • Identify and communicate the actions needed to implement the strategy and business plan within the Financial Management department; explain the relationship to the broader organization's mission, vision and values; motivate people to commit to these and to doing extraordinary things to achieve local business goals.
  • Manage a significant portion of the bank’s financial management and/or control processes (including SOx coordination).
  • Ensure that all activities within the Finance domain comply with relevant external regulatory and/or voluntary codes and with internal policies and procedures to minimize risk and to protect the reputation of the organization.
  • Deliver accounting processes and tooling to ensure robust and reliable financial reporting and thorough analyses of the monthly financial results.
  • Develop and gain agreement to annual dynamic plans for expense and headcount budgets of the bank ensuring alignment with strategy and develop business cases for key projects, ensuring cross-functional integration.
  • Inform the relevant bodies within the bank (audit committee, executive committee), the regulators and shareholders regarding control over financial reporting and increase the quality of the control framework by continuously improvement, ensuring the bank's processes are in line with regulatory and statutory standards as well as internal policies.
  • Communicate adequately on irregularities and deal with them so that the financial reporting can be timely and correctly delivered.
  • Approve and deliver on project plans, ensuring that all activities are identified, appropriately organized and executed to deliver all change activities for the Finance Function , comply with the bank's project and program management framework, and comply with the bank's wider governance structure and processes.
  • Ensure that risks, issues, dependencies, and constraints are managed appropriately at project level. Where risks or issues threaten delivery of the project, develop and agree recovery plans.
  • To be able to perform these activities you make use of complex data. You gather, analyze and evaluate this data and translate this into understandable advice for the business.

As Head of Financial Management, you also need :  

  • Master’s degree in accounting, Finance or Economics
  • fluency in French or Dutch and English
  • minimum 15–20-year experience in the Finance domain, including senior managerial roles and preferably with banking orientation
  • strong people management including the capacity to empower your teams to act autonomously and hold them accountable
  • excellent business partnering & stakeholder skills, combined with strong decision-making skills
  • effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace
