Job Overview

Chapter Lead Solution Architect sets the standards for the Solution Architecture chapter and takes responsibility for developing, innovating and safeguarding knowledge in the field of expertise. This is a leadership position where you’re expected to develop and manage people to meet both their individual goals, career goals, organization's goals alongside your role as an individual contributor to solution architecture concerns. The Chapter Lead Solution Architect also ensures that the solution architecture and designs delivered by their team is aligned to the respective domain and enterprise strategic directions.

Strong communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and a deep understanding of modern software architecture are essential for success. Whether designing cloud-native applications, optimizing system performance, or ensuring security compliance, you will play a key role in shaping the technology strategy of the organization. As a team, we internationally coordinate our ambitions with the C-level and we design, structure, and help our engineers to achieve these ambitions. The team consists of a group of architects that use their diverse technologies, backgrounds and corporate experiences to follow market developments and guide technology changes in a changing regulatory and competitive landscape for the mid to long term.

Key Responsibilities

  • Document and develop end-to-end technical solutions that align with business needs, industry best practices, and technology standards, and map out the change required to achieve the target solution
  • Analyze business use cases, read technical documentation and standards, and understand the financial and technical processes of the bank to develop and drive a target architecture
  • Effectively coordinate the communication, participation, and cooperation with engineers, business, and stakeholders to deliver well-architected solutions to your domain, users, and business lines
  • Work with Domain and Enterprise Architects to align documents and solutions with architectural group standards and give feedback to existing standards
  • Participate in the architectural board of the bank to review and govern the architectural practices of the group
  • Communicate the actions needed to implement the function's strategy and business plan within the team; explain the relationship to the broader organization's mission, vision and values; motivate people to commit to these and to achieve local business goals.
  • Lead in the creation of the documentation of features, solutions, technical initiatives, and product designs on a physical, logical, functional, and network level
  • Motivate and support the growth of all members of a mid-sized team using equitable approaches to performance management and development that may be differentiated to support each employee's unique needs and preferences to bring out their best and meet business needs.
  • Plan and implement continuing professional development to build their professional capabilities. Provide informal training or coaching to others throughout the organization in own area of expertise to enable others to improve performance and fulfill personal potential.
  • Manage and report on the performance of a diverse team; set appropriate performance objectives for direct reports and hold them accountable for their achievement.
  • Adhere to all ING policies and complete all mandatory training requirements.

Key Capabilities/Experience

  • Extensive experience in application design, analyzing business requirements and creating documentation for technical and non-technical readers, and delivering technical solutions and processes to achieve architectural vision
  • Experience creating, designing and advising on architectural road maps, and creating and using organizational reference architecture to support your road map
  • Experience in leadership, managing small to medium sized teams, and co-creation skills to unify a group towards the common good of your organization through coaching, mentoring, constraining, guiding, and support
  • Experience in modern technologies like containerization and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes), public cloud and related usage patterns, Distributed System tooling, and the like
  • Knowledge of technology in all levels in the technology stack (from infrastructure to front-end) with expert knowledge & hands-on experience on one or more levels or domains (e.g. backend tooling, financial business processes, or infrastructure & CI/CD)
  • Knowledge of the content and architecture of multiple domains and/or platforms (technologies, applications, business processes). You have level of architecture expertise to coach and mentor others
  • Knowledge of the principles of Cybersecurity, having a level of experience in implementing cybersecurity policies to the organization
  • Knowledge of architectural modeling, like C4, ArchiMate, UML, ERDs, etc.
  • Knowledge of Public Cloud and related tooling
  • Knowledge of Oracle Database Systems
  • Knowledge or familiarity with Relational Databases and NoSQL Databases.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Multiple years’ experience in managing teams, designing technical systems, and advising stakeholders and business as a technology expert
  • Passionate about building reliable and scalable software systems and have a strong background in architectural design.
  • Ability to apply expertise to act as the organizational authority on making sure the organization develops and maintains the culture, values and design it needs to reach its objectives while managing structural change.
  • Communication Skills: an architect requires both formal and informal global coordination and communication skills amongst large groups of stakeholders. Professional communications skill and the ability to reason technically in English is required.
  • Presentation and Documentation Skills: being an architect requires you to regularly communicate your designs to multiple stakeholders and the engineering community through documentation, white papers, and presentations for business and technical audiences alike
  • Outstanding analytical skills, people deeply curious and interested in technology
  • Action-oriented, decisive approach to work required, with the willingness to take a hands-on role to ensure deliverables are met on time if needed, willing to take responsibility
  • Ability to work well within a Cross-Cultural team environment. Willingness for international travel and interaction with peers of multiple nationalities. Appreciation for multiple viewpoints, customs and diversity is a must.

Optional:

  • Experience working with Regulatory, Compliance, and Policy matters regarding systems design and architecture is a plus
  • Experience in Banking/ FinTech space is an advantage
