Do I need to be studying a financial, economics or business-related subject to become an intern at ING?
No, that’s not necessary. At ING, we offer internships for students of a wide variety of subjects in secondary vocational/higher education (MBO, HBO, and WO level). Your enthusiasm and your personality are just as important as your course. The internships offered by ING are so diverse that they’re suitable for students from many different educational backgrounds.

Can I become an intern at ING if I’ve already graduated?
No, it’s not possible to become an intern at ING if you’ve already graduated. You’re required to be enrolled at an educational institution for the duration of your internship, and you may not have already completed your studies.

I’m not a native Dutch speaker. Can I still apply for an internship at ING?
International students are welcome at ING. However, many departments within ING are Dutch-oriented. If you don’t speak Dutch, you can apply for any vacancies published in the English language. For Dutch-language vacancies, we’re specifically seeking students who speak Dutch.

Which types of internships does ING offer?
Your internship at ING can take the form of either a work-experience placement or a graduation project. Within a work-experience placement, rather than having to complete a specific project within the framework of your study programme, you’re instead given a hands-on role within one of ING’s departments. This allows you to learn about all aspects of that department’s activities first-hand. As an intern on a graduation project, on the other hand, you conduct research. You agree on the topic of your research together with your mentor at ING and your college’s Intern Counsellor. While you’ll spend most of your time conducting research and working on your thesis, you’ll also gain a sense of what it’s like to work at ING.
How long does an ING internship last?
Most internships at ING last between four and six months. We also take your study programme’s requirements into account.

Who can I turn to for support during my internship? You’re assigned a mentor within ING. He or she will be working in the same ING department as you and will be your first point of contact. While your mentor will ensure that you have everything you need to carry out what’s expected of you as an intern, you yourself are ultimately responsible for the success of your internship.
My college expects me to go back now and again for certain course-related activities during my internship. Does ING offer me the flexibility to do so? ING believes that it’s important to maintain a fair balance between your role as an intern and the activities required of you by your study programme. Therefore, it goes without saying that you’re allowed time off to fulfil any study-related obligations.

When does an internship start? You can embark on an internship at any time of the year, but there are two main intakes annually: February and September. The start date is indicated in the description of the vacancy for each individual internship. If you see a vacancy for an internship that interests you, you can apply directly online.
What should I do if I can’t find a suitable internship in the list? The list of internship vacancies on this website is updated daily to ensure it is always current. While you’re welcome to check the website regularly, why not set up a ‘job alert’? That way, you’ll receive automatic notification whenever a relevant internship is added. Unfortunately, we cannot accept suggestions for internships or graduation projects.

Do I get paid during my internship?
Yes, you receive a monthly allowance of €700.
I would like to become an intern abroad. Is that possible within ING?
ING’s Dutch office does not offer internships outside of The Netherlands. If you’re interested in becoming an intern abroad, please visit ING's website.
What should I wear to an interview for an internship?
We advise you to dress smartly for your interview. Once you’ve joined as an intern, you can adapt your outfits to suit your department’s dress code, which in most cases will be ‘business casual’.
