TRM CEM & Macro is a global department within ING’s CRO Financial Risk organisation. The team is part of the Trading Risk pillar, Market Risk Methodology and Reporting team and is responsible for the ownership and oversight of ING’s FRTB CVA (Credit Valuation Adjustment) capital framework. As owner of the FRTB CVA capital model, the team is responsible for capital reporting, risk analysis, model governance, regulatory compliance and ongoing model enhancements. The team works closely with Front Office, Finance, IT and other Risk departments to ensure robust management of counterparty credit risk and market risk arising from ING’s global derivatives portfolio.

This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in CVA risk management, regulatory capital reporting and risk analytics. You will work alongside experienced risk specialists and gain exposure to financial markets, derivatives, regulatory frameworks, data analytics and Python-based tooling used in a highly specialized risk environment.

The team
As a Financial Risk Intern, you will be part of a team consisting of 6 specialists responsible for monitoring, reporting and enhancing ING’s FRTB CVA capital framework.

During your internship, you will support the team in its day-to-day activities, including regulatory capital reporting, risk analysis, process improvements and automation initiatives. You will have the opportunity to work on real business challenges while developing your technical, analytical and financial risk management skills.

You will work closely with Front Office, Risk, Finance and IT colleagues and contribute to ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening reporting processes, improving data quality and developing analytical tools.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support the preparation, review and distribution of daily, monthly and quarterly FRTB CVA capital reports.
  • Assist in analysing movements in CVA capital, market risk sensitivities and counterparty exposures.
  • Support ad-hoc analyses related to portfolio developments, market movements and regulatory capital drivers.
  • Assist with scenario analysis, stress testing and regulatory impact assessments.
  • Contribute to the development and optimization of reporting and analytical tools using Python and Excel.
  • Assist in maintaining documentation related to reporting processes, model governance and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across Financial Markets, Risk, Finance and IT on risk management and change initiatives.

How to Succeed
We are looking for a motivated student who thrives in a dynamic and evolving environment and is eager to learn about financial markets, data analytics and regulatory capital.

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Econometrics, Quantitative Finance, Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, Physics, Engineering or another quantitative field.
  • Strong interest in financial markets, derivatives, risk management and quantitative analytics.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working with large datasets and performing data analysis.
  • Curious, proactive and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Strong Excel skills and experience with Python programming.
  • Familiarity with VBA, SQL or other programming languages is considered an advantage.
