The mission

Do you want to lead the way to further enhance ING’s Payments platform? Are you eager to take your architecture skills to design globally scalable, high performant and extremely reliable services? Then join ING’s Payment & Settlement Services as Global Payment Architect.

Within Payment & Settlement Services Architecture we are looking for a new Domain Architect. You will be joining an experienced team of 20 Architects that work together with Business and Technology colleagues to realize our goals that drive our vision. The team is spread in multiple locations in Amsterdam, Bucharest, Manila and works to further develop ING’s global services. 

Your day to day

• Design & document complex, secure and resilient systems which can cover business needs, consolidating multiple driving factors, using advanced knowledge of system design, analysis and development;

• Coordinate architecture activities for incremental changes (maintaining and extending existing solutions) and innovative changes (conceiving new solutions for emerging opportunities) for Open Banking domain;

• Participate in defining reference architectures;

• Use different patterns and elaborate designs to cover the non-functional requirements especially on the resilience and performance areas;

• Organise and support workshops and presentations for decision making;

• Engage with development teams and review/approve technical designs;

• Contribute to the creation of global architecture standards;

• Asses and select appropriate technologies from the many open source, commercial on-premises, and cloud-based offerings available;

• Deep dive into both new, cutting edge and legacy technologies helping build POCs and advising on best strategies;

• Manage stakeholders across multiple departments in various countries;

• Work independent under limited guidance with a strong drive to collaborate with other stakeholders.

What you’ll bring to the team

• You have at least 3 years of experience as an architect;

• Have experience in highly regulated environments (e.g., financial institutions);

• Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical topics to various audiences (i.e. from business, over IT managers, to Solution Architects & implementation squads);

• You are able to translate requirements into well-defined target Architecture solutions taking into account all relevant dimensions: Business strategy & vison, IT strategy & vison, Architecture principles, non-functionals, security, operations;

• You are able to develop Architecture roadmaps with the right sense of pragmatism i.e. go target where feasible and define transition Architectures where required ... all in an Agile context. This is all about defining islands of stability during our journey from the as-is towards the target state;

• You can act as a problem-solver, you are not afraid of challenges. You can take a step back, turn challenges into solutions by making use of your abstraction, conceptualization & Architecture skills;

• You are a team player that brings together all the required stakeholders to define end-to-end Architectures: from our customer/employee facing channels till the back-end payment processing;

• You improve yourself constantly; and you challenge, improve and train others continuously;

• Experience with OAuth 2.0 framework and extensions;

• Knowledge of Architecture framework(s) (TOFAG, IAF, Zachmann) is a plus;

• Domain knowledge: understanding of European Payment Initiative, Open Banking and its business processes is a plus;

• Foreign languages: English (advanced);

• Education: Bachelor/Master level with a strong analytical background, in Computer Science, Cybernetics, Software Engineering, Financial Engineering or equivalent.
