ING Australia is looking for an experienced Privacy Compliance Manager to join our Compliance team and help safeguard the privacy and data rights of our customers across Retail, Business Banking, Wholesale Banking Technology and Operations.

As a Privacy Compliance Manager, you’ll be the trusted advisor supporting our Data Protection Officer (DPO) to ensure ING meets its obligations under the Australian Privacy Act, Australian Privacy Principles, GDPR (where applicable), and ING’s internal global privacy frameworks. You’ll play a critical role in embedding strong data protection practices across the business from advising on privacy queries and data breaches to challenging risk assessments, uplifting processes, and driving a culture of privacy‑by‑design.

If you’re passionate about protecting customer data, influencing better decision-making, and navigating evolving privacy regulations, this is your opportunity to make a real impact.

Ready to make an impact?

What you’ll do

  • Support the Data Protection Officer to ensure ING meets its obligations under the Privacy Act, APPs, GDPR (where applicable), and ING’s global policies.
  • Act as a key point of contact for privacy queries across Retail, Business Banking, Wholesale, Technology and Operations teams.
  • Provide expert advice on individual rights requests, complex customer complaints, and matters escalated to regulators or external dispute bodies.
  • Challenge and review personal data processing activities, including Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs), outsourcing risk assessments, and data retention practices.
  • Assess suspected data breaches, advise on regulatory notifications, and support remediation activities.
  • Interpret and advise on ING’s internal privacy frameworks, including GPDP and GDPP.
  • Monitor and independently test controls, processes, and systems to ensure ongoing compliance with privacy obligations.
  • Review vendor and third‑party arrangements to ensure appropriate data protection requirements are met.
  • Develop and deliver privacy and data retention training and awareness sessions across the business.
  • Prepare regular reporting for local and global leadership teams.

What we’re looking for

  • 3–5 years’ experience + in data protection, privacy compliance, legal advisory or related fields, Financial Services is preferred but is not mandatory.
  • Strong understanding of the Privacy Act, Australian Privacy Principles, and working knowledge of GDPR.
  • Experience with privacy risk assessments, PIAs, data breach management, vendor due diligence, and privacy governance frameworks.
  • Familiarity with (or desire to learn) AI governance, security, and broader IT ecosystems.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the confidence to challenge, advise, and influence across business units and senior levels.
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills with the ability to translate complex privacy laws into actionable business guidance.
  • University degree in Law or a related field; privacy certifications (e.g., CIPP, CIPM) highly regarded.
  • Collaborative, proactive, and comfortable navigating ambiguity in a fast‑paced environment.

What’s in it for you?

  • Discounted ING Health Insurance
  • An additional Rest Day to support your wellbeing
  • An IMPACT Day to volunteer on approved sustainability activity
