Inès, Product Lead Business Banking

Beyond banking: how Inès is rethinking business finance

“People often see banking as purely financial. But projects like this reveal how much broader its impact truly is.”

For Inès, Product Lead in Business Banking at ING Belgium, the question “how can we remove friction for our customers?” sparked the idea behind ING Invoice Manager, years before e-invoicing became mandatory.

Building across borders

Invoice Manager is not a solo effort. Inès works closely with a team based in India, alongside external consultants and colleagues across technology, compliance, and business banking.

Bringing a platform like this to market requires close coordination across time zones, disciplines, and priorities, while ensuring that every part of the experience stands up to the needs of the entrepreneur using it.

“Payments, and more specifically being able to pay invoices, are an important component of the platform, but they are only part of the story,” Inès says. “The real objective is helping businesses organise their financial administration more efficiently. This diversity is what makes it so exciting,” she adds.

ING gives Inès and her team the autonomy to shape the product, and the responsibility that comes with it. The platform sits at the intersection of technology, regulation, and entrepreneurship. That scope is part of what drew her to the role, and part of what keeps it challenging.

What adoption taught her

Her biggest learning from this project? Adoption. ING had the ambition to be among the first banks in Belgium ready for the e-invoicing transition, and technically, they were. But readiness alone proved to be only half the story.

“Adoption doesn’t depend on technology alone,” Inès explains.

One of the key insights was the pivotal role of business bankers: the trusted advisors who guide entrepreneurs in their day-to-day banking decisions. They ultimately play a decisive role in whether a new solution gains traction.

“They are the ambassadors of solutions like this. We realised they needed to be involved even earlier in the process, not just at the launch,” says Inès.

Innovation driven by people

The invoicing and payments space is moving fast. Regulations and market expectations keep shifting but for Inès, that pace is a source of energy rather than pressure. ING gives her team the space to keep iterating, to stay close to what clients need, and to build solutions that genuinely help businesses run better.

“The environment pushes you to keep learning,” Inès says. “The payments and invoicing landscape evolves quickly, which makes it exciting to work on products that can really make a difference for our clients.”

For Inès, that combination; diverse teams, a fast-moving market, and the freedom to keep improving, is exactly what makes working at ING in Business Banking worth it.
