The Tribe DevEx & System Engineering is part of Engineering & Reliability, focusing on driving end-to-end system optimisation, increasing engineering productivity, and enhancing developer experience. We build on a unified engineering system -- a Swiss Army knife used by thousands of ING engineers. 

The team

You will join the AutoCert team. A passionate group of Java developers that build ING’s in-house ACME server and supporting tools for our hybrid cloud. We pride ourselves in following the ACME specification to the smallest detail while applying high level coding standards. Our mission: make certificate expiry a thing of the past through automated renewal and high-quality engineering. 

The AutoCert team leverages technologies such as:

  • Quarkus (for supersonic subatomic Java) 

  • Red hat Openshift 

  • Azure Devops (Repositories/Pipelines/Functions and more) 

  • Oracle 

  • Apache Airflow 

  • ACME clients (Certbot, cert-manager and POSH-ACME) 

  • Linux and Windows Virtual machines 

  • Helm, Bash, Python, Powershell and Ansible  

Roles and responsibilities

As an intern you can help us reduce cognitive load by helping us transform and lifecycle one our supporting tools that is hosted as a serverless function in the cloud.  

The role is in ING Amsterdam HBP office · 36 hours/week · Hybrid (2 days in office, 2 days remote) 


During the internship we need you to: 

  • Design, plan and transform the app from Micronaut to Quarkus 

  • Replace (Micronaut) plugins with Quarkus extensions 

  • Migrating from Jupiter assertions to AssertJ for testing 

  • Update the JDK to version 25 (From 17) and applying best practices 

  • Securely Deploy the application as a serverless function 

  • Ensure high test coverage

  • Associate degree bachelor student in Software Development or similar. 

  • Enthusiastic, with a love for frameworks and high coding standards.
