As an IT Chapter Lead in Mortgages, you combine strong technical expertise with solid delivery experience. You bring knowledge of Java backend development, operational processes, IT architecture, and people leadership.

Together with the engineers in your chapter, you will take IT (delegate) Custodianship of key Mortgages BE assets — including Pricing, Online Services, the Loan Origination Platform, and the Target Java Orchestrator. Operating in a Bus‑Dev‑Ops setup, you will co‑drive the delivery of new features across customer and employee digital journeys and play a significant role in the New Banking Platform (NBP) transformation of our legacy applications.

Beyond delivery leadership, you will oversee OPS activities, ensuring robust end‑to‑end production support. This includes guaranteeing infrastructure readiness, coordinating releases, and driving efficient incident management.

You are an experienced engineer (minimum “competent” level per the Dreyfus model) who collaborates closely with the IT Area Lead to shape the IT vision and take ownership of its execution. The role also requires dedicated time for developing chapter expertise and coaching your engineers.

A day in the life of a Chapter Lead Mortgages Java & OPS

· Work closely with Business Squad Masters and Product Owners to plan, prioritize, and deliver the tribe’s transformation roadmap.

· Lead a chapter of Java and OPS engineers, setting high standards for engineering excellence and fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing.

· Take ownership of IT delivery by designing robust, scalable solutions while balancing platform stability with new feature development.

· Ensure team success by identifying and removing delivery impediments proactively.

· Oversee the daily execution of production operations through effective monitoring, alerting, and coordination of the incident management process

In terms of skills

· Knowledge of ING organization, ING standards, frameworks and IT architecture areas and work experience in management of integration services (such as APIs)

· Understanding of DevOPS processes: Azure Devops, CI/CD, SRE Tooling/ Monitoring/ Alerting: Grafana, Prometheus, IAT

· Good understanding and proven work experience in web-technology applications leveraging Java Spring Boot, and front-end technologies

· Strong social and communication skills. Being a sparring partner for our business colleagues

People and Chapter management

· Act as a key member of Product (Area) Lead, Chapter Lead, and Squad Master forums, contributing to:

o resource planning across squads and chapters with Tribe stakeholders

· Mentor and coach engineers both technically and professionally, providing constructive and actionable feedback.

· Recognize high performance and intervene early when performance concerns arise.

· Lead recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding of chapter members.

The team

You will join the Retail Lending IT management team, covering Consumer Loans, Mortgages, and Collections. The Java & OPS Chapter consists of approximately 15 engineers located in Brussels, India, and Manila.
