Senior Architect (Core Banking)

Reporting to the Enterprise Architecture Lead, the Senior Architect is a critical member of the Strategy and Architecture team, working in close partnership with senior stakeholders to define, shape, and advance ING’s architectural vision.

The role is responsible for designing and continuously refining the architecture that enables the phased implementation of new platforms across all layers of the enterprise landscape—including distribution, middleware, process automation, customer, and fulfilment domains.

What you’ll do …

• Develop technology architectures that clearly articulate the current state, target state, and transition states, ensuring new and existing platforms coexist seamlessly throughout the migration journey.

• Lead and facilitate discovery sessions with business and IT stakeholders to gather insights, validate assumptions, and shape solution directions.

• Proactively identifies risks and issues and applies creative problem‑solving to mitigate or resolve them effectively.

• Collaborate closely with ING Group Architecture to ensure the local architecture roadmap aligns with global standards, principles, and strategic direction.

• Coach and mentor the broader architecture and technology teams on critical elements of the Banking Modernisation program’s architecture, uplifting capability and ensuring consistent architectural understanding.

What we’re looking for…

• Demonstrated experience working as an architect on core banking projects.

• Experience in payment architecture that accelerates business growth and enhances customer experience.

• Previous experience in working in a large-scale transformation program.

• Demonstrated experience to design/ implement software components and delivering mission critical enterprise solutions.

• Solid understanding of the technology architecture of a bank including internal and external integrations.

• Exposure to the Australian banking technology market with existing relationships with strategic partners.

• Exceptional attention to detail at the attribute/data‑element level.
