ING Hubs Romania offers 130 services in software development, data management, non-financial risk & compliance, audit, and retail operations to 24 ING units worldwide, with the help of 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡-𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐬.

We started out in 2015 as ING’s software development hub, then steadily expanded our range to include more services and competencies. Now we provide borderless services with bank-wide capabilities and 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐰𝐨 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: 𝐁𝐮𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐥𝐮𝐣-𝐍𝐚𝐩𝐨𝐜𝐚.

The Mission

Payments & Settlement Services –RealTimePayments Engine (RTPE)

RTPE is amissioncritical,realtimepayments platformprocessinghighvolume,lowlatencytransactions across ING. It playsa central rolein SEPA, instant payments, and ISO 20022 message processing, ensuringavailability, resilience, and correctnessunder strict regulatory and operational constraints.

RTPE operates in a24/7 production environment, handling millions of messages, integrating with multiple upstream and downstream systems, and supporting continuous modernization (e.g.migration from legacy integrations toJavabasedlisteners and moderneventdrivenarchitectures).

Your day to day

Even if you’ll start your day from the comfort of your home or drink your morning coffee in ouroffice’sgarden, your day will be quite similarwhencomes to tasks. Here are your daily responsibilities:

  • Work on user stories that have beenbrokedown from features;

  • Design, develop, andmaintainJavabasedrealtimeprocessing components;

  • Implement andmaintainmessagedrivenintegrations(MQ, Kafka, APIs);

  • Work withISO 20022 payment messages(e.g.pacs.008, pacs.002,camtmessages);

  • Ensureendtoendownershipof user stories: analysis, development, testing, release, and production support; 

  • Participate inincident analysis, root cause investigations, and production improvements;

  • Collaborate closely with SRE, product owners, and other global engineering teams;

  • Contribute tononfunctionalrequirements: performance, resilience, scalability, security; 

  • Ensure compliance withING IT Risk, audit, and security requirements;

  • Participate in Scrum ceremonies (standups, refinements, reviews, retrospectives); 

  • Demo delivered functionality to stakeholders whenrequired.

Whatyou’llbring to the team

  • 5+years ofexperience of java development (Java 17and Java 21);

  • Foreign languages: English (advanced) 

  • Education: nice to have bachelor’s degree (or higher) in an IT related field  

  • Understanding/work exposure to Kafka;

  • Experience/Knowledge of various Java Frameworks – Spring, Spring Boot;

  • Experience working on CI/CD tools - anywoulddo, we are going to useAzDO;

  • Some experience with XML, XSL, XSD;

  • Experience working with TDD and BDD;

    • Experience in SCRUM with a strong preference for the agile way of working.

    • Nice to have:

    • Experience/Knowledge of various Java Frameworks;

    • Knowledge ofISO 20022standards;

    • Some project experience in financial market group treasury;

    • Exposure toobservability tools(Prometheus, Grafana, logging/alerting).
