The Mission

Summit is a cross asset trading platform catering to Front Office, Back office and Risk departments. Within ING Financial markets it serves the following high-level purposes: Trading (Deal Capture and Position Keeping system for linear and nonlinear Interest Rate and Credit Derivatives), end-of-day and intra-day P&L Reporting and Risk Management, Position Keeping system for Bonds, Repos, Futures, FX and Money Markets, Back Office reporting, Transaction reporting (Deal Capture) feed for Regulatory Reporting, Hedge Accounting system for Global Treasury.

The Summit Platform Squad supports the Summit application in Financial Markets in a few ways, providing reliability and resilience through automation and harnessing leading technologies. This Squad deliver changes and new functionalities, helping at the same time to maintain a robust and reliable application.

Financial Markets is looking for an enthusiastic experienced DevOps Engineer, with a focus on quality, automation and security, to work on the Summit platform. The in-house built high-performance customizations and interfaces, together with the vendor-built application, are key platforms for the real-time low-latency landscape in scope of the growing Financial Markets domain. His/her passion for Financial Markets and engineering skills will ensure and support a stable, secure, and performing critical application.

As a DevOps Engineer in our Summit Platform Squad, you provide the automation, tooling, resilience, and security necessary for smooth feature delivery by your colleagues in the Summit Capability Squads. Your purpose is to make the Summit environment and delivery ever faster and reliable.

You will play a key role in supporting the upgrade of the application to version 6.3. This will include analysis, design and test of code changes and close cooperation with the Product Owner and with the OPS Engineers from the Summit Capability Squad to help resolve Production issues, as well as add new features for the system, which to address various business requirements or regulatory requirements.

Your day to day:

From an individual contributor point of view, together with your IT colleagues in London, Bucharest, Singapore and New York you will:

  • Take responsibility for the full the stack/platform on Development, Test, Acceptance and Production environments. You automate relentlessly: Regression Testing (Functional, Performance, Security), Deployments, and Operations (Data Center failover, Backups/Restore, Security Monitoring, full stack monitoring).
  • You take ownership of life cycle management of all components (O.S., Middleware, Database) as well as security (interface encryption certificates, user access, vulnerability analysis and patching). The Summit application uses different technologies: Linux, Oracle,C# and C/C++.
  • As part of the Platform Squad, you work in an Agile/Scrum way, on the backlog prioritized by a Technical Product Owner, and you demo your features to the Capability Squads that you work with.
  • Our platform has a global user base of Risk Managers, Traders, Sales in Singapore, Europe, New York, you are responsible for supporting a stable, performing and secure platform/service.
  • Improve application monitoring using the correct and agreed event alerts.
  • Support in performing High Availability and Disaster Recovery tests.
  • Implement and work with the latest tooling with a strong focus on performance, stability and security.
  • Find opportunities to automate the testing of existing features, performance and security as well as the automation of deployments, monitoring, and more.
  • Understand the root cause for a problem or existing gap for an enhancement and propose a viable solution for it.
  • Take ownership of issues and improvements, seeing them through to completion, providing comprehensive handover as required.
  • You assist with technical specifications for change requests and user stories.
  • Analyze requirements and define their applicability inside the technical environment.
  • Work on technical improvements (automation, monitoring, setting up environments, Azure DevOps pipelines)
  • Continuous deployment and delivery using Azure DevOps
  • Collaborate with the vendor about environment updates and upgrades.
  • Propose opportunities and innovations.
  • IT Risk & security controls need to be put in place and accurately documented, for this you will need to get familiar and keep up to date with the ING Information Security Management Policy.
  • Our platform has a global user base of Risk Managers, Traders and Sales in Singapore, Europe and New York. You will help maintaining and developing a stable, performing and secure platform/service.
  • Comply with all internal guidelines, timely completion all mandatory training and always safeguard the integrity and reputation of ING.
  • Occasional travel abroad (London, Amsterdam)

What you’ll bring to the team

  • Experience: 2+ years of experience in a Summit role, 5+ years of software engineering experience
  • Tech stack/ knowledge:
    • Mandatory:
      • You have a good/solid knowledge of Summit implementation / migration / upgrade projects.
      • Good understanding of the Summit data model and of some of the following Summit modules: Risk, Market Data, Deal capture, Summit reports, Bonds, CDS, Swaps, State transitions, optional - Loaders and Adaptors
      • Advanced knowledge on Windows and Linux (RedHat Enterprise Linux (7 or 8), administration, including VM / Cloud solutions.
      • PL/SQL knowledge
      • Knowledge on CI/CD, and experience with Azure DevOps, Git, Maven, Checkmarks, Jenkins, Sonar, Fortify, Ansible, pipelines, automate mindset.
      • Thorough understanding of networks, firewalls and scripting languages (e.g. PowerShell, Bash, Groovy, Python)
      • A customer focus, with the mindset to find and resolve root causes of incidents to structurally improve the customer experience.
      • Experience or affinity with IT Risk & Security concepts
      • A good team player, cross functional, enjoys interacting with people of all levels in a multicultural environment.
      • Proactive and attentive to other’s needs
    • Nice to have:
      • Experience with managing full-stack vendor packages, and additionally (low latency) infrastructural stack knowledge.
      • Security and IT Risk (SOX, vulnerability management)
      • Shell scripting: Korn shell, Perl
      • ITIL certified.

  • Foreign languages: English (advanced)
  • Education: Education at Bachelor/Master level with a strong analytical background, in Computer Science, Cybernetics, Software Engineering, Financial Engineering or equivalent
