Cloud Engineer

A Cloud Engineer is someone that specializes in engineering of services and platforms running in the Public Cloud. They work directly with the different IaaS and PaaS solutions of different Cloud Service Providers.

Our Cloud Engineers have responsibilities ranging from design and development of applications, up to maintenance and improvement of platforms that they developed. Their focus is on building cloud-native solutions and innovation as they operate in the ever-changing environments of the Public Cloud.

Responsibilities

Delivery

• Develop applications and platforms features defined by the Product Owner
• Build deployment pipelines for applications and platforms
• Draft effective and applicable technical solutions that fit business needs and requirements
• Investigate and assess technologies that can/will be used/implemented
• Perform Proof-of-Concepts on technology proposals
• For applications and platforms owned by the squad:
  • Provide technical consultation on applications and platforms to other Engineering teams
  • Manage, maintain, update, and upgrade applications and platforms
  • Implement security controls and policies required
  • Join rotation of on-call engineers that support the applications and platforms
• Analyze and troubleshoot incidents and resolve in a timely manner
• Work with the Squad Lead and fellow Cloud Engineers in prioritizing backlog and deliverables
• Participate in risk assessments and mitigating activities as needed
• Regularly attend meetings to discuss projects, issues, and ideas
• Create and assist in the documentation of solutions

Practice & Craftsmanship

• Contribute to the definition of technical standards and guidance for the team and chapter
• Investigate and prototype new technologies and frameworks and make recommendations for their introduction into the developmental and operational environments
• Drive to debug, instrument, and optimize code, describe system performance characteristics, and automate routine tasks

Required Skills

• Strong understanding of basic Public Cloud concepts
• Strong understanding of DevOps and CI/CD
• Experience in Infrastructure as Code (Ansible, Terraform)
• Experience in containerization and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Experience in developing and maintaining applications and/or platforms
• Experience and knowledge of some Cloud Services (Azure, GCP)
• Ability to think independently and contribute to the overall effort
• Ability to work well within a team environment
• Ability to work well under pressure
• Ability to be a self-starter and work in a fast paced environment performing designing, writing, editing, modifying, and debugging code
• Outstanding analytical skills
• Communication skills: Cloud Engineers work with several engineering teams from different parts of the globe
• Innovative and creative skills: Cloud Engineers must have the desire to research and discover new technologies that can be applied to the Public Cloud
• Action-oriented, decisive approach to work required, with the willingness to take a hands-on role to ensure deliverables are met on time if needed
