Senior Software Engineer (Backend-Java) – Business Banking Cards (w/m/d)

Join our Business Banking Cards domain and help us build reliable, scalable, and secure card-related applications. In this role, you will work closely with Business Banking stakeholders and collaborate with Retail Banking teams on shared capabilities, processes, and customer journeys.

Your Tasks

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend solutions for the Business Banking Cards domain
  • Build modern applications using Java 21+, Spring, Spring Boot, Kafka, and Oracle Database
  • Take ownership of system design and implementation, considering the overall IT landscape, dependencies, integration points, and long-term maintainability
  • Work with microservice-based and private cloud architectures
  • Take end-to-end responsibility across the software development lifecycle, from analysis and solution design to implementation, testing, documentation, deployment, and production support
  • Collaborate closely with business stakeholders, IT teams, architects, product owners, external service providers, and Retail Banking teams
  • Design and implement synchronous and asynchronous integrations, including REST-based APIs and Kafka-based event communication
  • Apply test-driven development and contribute to automated functional, integration, regression, and performance testing
  • Apply secure software development practices and ensure that solutions meet banking, governance, and security requirements
  • Identify and address security risks during design, implementation, testing, and production support
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, build processes, deployment automation, and continuous improvement of delivery workflows
  • Support software quality through clean code, code reviews, quality assurance measures, and engineering best practices
  • Analyze incidents and problems, identify root causes, and implement sustainable technical solutions
  • Mentor less experienced engineers and actively share knowledge within the team
Your Profile
  • Degree in computer science, engineering, business informatics, economics, or a comparable qualification
  • Several years of professional experience in Java backend development, ideally in enterprise or regulated environments
  • Strong hands-on experience with Java 21 or newer
  • Strong knowledge of Spring and Spring Boot
  • Experience with Kafka and event-driven or asynchronous communication patterns
  • Experience with Oracle Database, including data modeling, SQL, and performance-aware development
  • Good understanding of microservices, distributed systems, and cloud-ready application design
  • Ability to take ownership of technical solutions from design to production
  • Strong awareness of the broader application landscape, including upstream and downstream systems, dependencies, interfaces, and operational impact
  • Good understanding of secure software development practices, including authentication, authorization, data protection, dependency management, and secure coding principles
  • Awareness of cybersecurity risks in software development, especially in banking or other regulated environments
  • Confident with build tools, version control, CI/CD processes, and automated deployment pipelines, ideally in an Azure or private cloud environment
  • Hands-on experience with test automation and quality engineering practices
  • Experience working in agile teams, for example using Scrum or Kanban
  • Structured, solution-oriented, and quality-focused working style
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
  • Willingness to challenge existing solutions constructively and continuously improve the technical landscape
  • Good written and spoken English skills
