It is Finance & Risk's purpose to take a leading role in shaping and delivering the CFO, CRO and Global Financial Crime & Fraud Prevention landscape, allowing a better focus and support from Tech on CFO and CRO agendas. The domain provides robust and reliable Tech solutions that enhance speed, scale, security, and efficiency, while it enables meeting regulatory demands and consistently increasing levels of automation. 

We are looking for an experienced and visionary Chief Architect to define and execute the global IT architecture and design strategy and roadmap for the Finance and Risk domain. In this role you will ensure the alignment with business goals, regulatory requirements, and enterprise architecture standards while driving innovation and operational excellence. This role is critical in shaping the future of financial reporting, risk management and regulatory compliance.  You manage a department of multi-disciplinary architects and Innovation Specialists.

The base location of this function is in Amsterdam, but some travel to ING countries will be required.

The team

As Chief Architect F&R you will lead a team of architects. You will report hierarchically to the CIO F&R and are part of the Management Team F&R. Together with all Chief Architects globally you are also part of the MT Enterprise Architects and have a function reporting line to the Global Head of TS&EA.

Roles & responsibilities

As the Chief Architect you are responsible for:

  • Develop and maintain the enterprise architecture strategy for ING with a focus on F&R.

  • Defining roadmaps at different horizons (2 and 3) by making explicit what the key dependencies are and align with business objectives, regulatory requirements, and industry trends

  • Ensure scalability, security, and compliance in system implementations

  • Coherently managing F&R domains with the respective domain architects and platform architects

  • Stimulate global interaction and collaboration across the F&R architects in the different locations and countries

  • Develop the craftmanship of your teams as part of the global architecture practice.

  • Develop and maintain standards as part of our Technology Standard Board governance.

  • Support definition of short-term activities and dependencies in the quarterly business review

  • Guide and support the changes to the IT landscape

  • Ensure that the strategic partner ecosystem is developed & leveraged smartly to deliver value for ING and our partners

  • Lead the innovation initiatives within F&R

Experience & Education:

  • Extensive experience in enterprise architecture within a global financial organization

  • Experienced IT leader with prior experience in IT management roles

  • Education in Information Technology or similar (or equivalent professional examinations / experience)

  • Proven track record of working in a diverse matrix international environment

Technical Expertise:

  • Strong knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks

  • Expertise in microservices and event-driven architecture for Finance and Risk applications

  • Deep expertise in financial reporting, accounting systems and treasury management platforms

  • Strong experience with risk modeling and analytics platforms

  • Making impact by means of architecture methods and techniques

  • Strong knowledge of technology developments and different software systems to advise the best IT systems for the organization to use

  • Deeply understands negotiation methods and the stakes and manages opposing viewpoints and negotiated equitable designs to ensure successful and stable outcomes

Leadership & Strategy:

  • A inspiring and  credible leader with both extensive practical hands engineering, and excellent architecture knowledge and experience

  • An inspiring communicator who can explain the technology roadmap and translate them into practical strategies and ambitions for the organization and C-suite management

  • A consistent manager, providing structure and planning to his surroundings and one who is able to work in a volatile, regulated and innovative environment

  • A transformation technology leader who is recognized as inspiring, influencing, engaging and capable of explaining the complex, in an understandable way to c-level and engineers

  • Act as the thought leader for the architects community and ensure the accomplishment of pre-defined outcomes

  • Highly appreciated team player who collaborates and influences easily with multiple (sr.) business stakeholders and embraces the BizDevOps setup. Has a multicultural mind-set and a highly customer-focussed outlook

  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills, as well as outstanding negotiation and change management skills

  • Ability to simplify complexity and drive operational excellence
