Enterprise Architect Infrastructure and Engineering - Global Data Services

Data services such as RDMS, NoSQL, object storage, and file stores in both public and private cloud form the basis of ING’s data landscape. Do you want to be the strategic Enterprise Architect and ambassador of these platforms, do you know your way around various technologies like Oracle, SQL, Postgress, Cassandra and S3 and do you want to productize these technologies as managed services/platforms on a large scale in an internal infrastructure as code supplier/consumer setting? Then join the Enterprise Architecture team at ING.

The team

The mission for our team is to provide architectural guidance for all the platforms that support ING’s engineers to plan, design, code, build, deploy, run, operate and monitor their applications.

As a team we internationally coordinate our ambitions with the C-level and we design, structure, and help our engineers to achieve these ambitions. The team consists of a group of architects that use their diverse technology backgrounds and corporate experiences to follow market developments and guide technology changes in a changing regulatory and competitive landscape for the mid to long term.   

Roles and responsibilities

  • Collaborate in a global team of experienced architects setting architecture standards to be endorsed by the Infra Standards & Technology Standards Boards.
  • Facilitate, research, ideate, prototype and test capabilities for the Software Company. We’re building the automation for global cloud native infrastructure delivery
  • Effectively coordinate the communication, participation and cooperation with engineers to deliver a globally integrated everything as code engineering platform.
  • Keeping a close relation with the different area leads, product owners, and engineers, influencing the development priorities and direction.
  • Initiate and be involved in genesis developments so the architecture team can proactively steer on ‘fit for purpose’.

  • Working in a multinational company requires international travel whereby appreciation for multiple viewpoints, customs and diversity is a must.  Professional communications skills in English are required.
  • Working as enterprise architects requires both formal and informal global coordination and communication skills amongst large groups of stakeholders, maintain alignment with vendors/suppliers and the ability to present to C level management.
  • Working within the infrastructure domain for a bank requires broad understanding and affinity with general IT infrastructure such as compute, storage and connectivity. Ability to understand the way of working of the consumers and support solutions designers.
  • Working within the data services domain requires a strong but respective mindset on change for guiding stakeholders during the transformation of classic data services towards automated platform services that adhere to the zero privilege concept and implement a wide range of nonfunctional requirements.
  • Working in a regulated industry requires appreciation and tolerance for regulations. It is important to understand that regulations influence the architecture of our landscape.
  • Working as a professional requires besides the standard skills like teamwork, self-steering, administrative, negotiation, etc. also a high level of self-awareness of (solution) biases. Understanding our own biases and their limits are key to be successful in negotiating broadly supported solutions.
