The Group Strategy & Innovation (GS&I) is looking for a strategy consultant to join our team. Our team performs multiple roles for the bank; key activity is to provide consulting services to ING Group including all ING’s business units across all functional lines. Our consultants assist executive board members and business unit or country executive boards with strategy formulation across various business lines and geographies, where we focus on high visibility and high impact projects. The Group Strategy & Innovation (GS&I) department reports directly to the CEO of ING Bank.

The team

The Group Strategy & Innovation (GS&I) department consists of ~40 professionals with ~15 professionals focused on Consulting. Strategy consultants are recruited from inside ING and externally - mainly from strategy consultancy firms (e.g., McKinsey, BCG, Bain, Kearney, Oliver Wyman, etc.).

Roles and responsibilities

This role is a position in our team of Strategy Consultants - where you are responsible for analyzing, composing and delivering a detailed solution to the issue at hand. To achieve that, you work with a multi-disciplined project team composed of 2-3 consultants, representatives of internal clients and (sometimes) external consultants.

The exposure to a wide range of topics, business lines and top management makes the team an ideal breeding ground for future management. Consequently, we have had an excellent track record in both core strategic projects as well as in placement of alumni within the ING Group.

  • Very strong academic track record, with a university degree (Masters-level required);

  • Minimum 3 years of (strategy) experience from a top-tier management consulting firm;

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills - a clear understanding how to link strategy to financial plans; Experience in MS Excel and other data analytics tools is required;

  • Ability to utilize research to develop deep insights and drive actionable results (“business sense”);

  • Persistent, open and convincing communicator. Able to work effectively with all levels in the organization, including senior management.

  • Clear history of success and driving impact.

  • Ability to work effectively in teams.

  • Demonstrated interest in the Financial Services sector.

  • Must be fluent in English. Knowledge of Dutch is advantageous.

  • Willing to travel worldwide (although most travel tends to be in the EU)
