The Opportunity:

This role is a member of a team that covers the critical in-life portfolio management and (regulatory) reporting for all Real Estate lending in the US within the ING Wholesale Banking community.

As an Associate in this team your primary responsibility will be the ongoing management of the Real Estate Finance loan portfolio, with an emphasis on credit monitoring, policy compliance, agency, analytics and internal reporting. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities of Role:

  • Support the Team Lead and be responsible for the quality and in-life management of a portfolio of credit facilities made to institutional real estate investors. This includes but is not limited to:
    • Deliver and process high quality financial and credit analyses;
    • Diligent and proactive credit monitoring through the review of all information- and financial covenants and early warning indicators (EWIs)
    • Manage quarterly and annual credit reviews and relevant portfolio updates;
    • Function as primary contact for the client with regards to the assigned portfolio during the in-life phase of a transaction including amendments and credit modifications;
    • Closely cooperate with the Sector relationschip management team, offshore front office support teams and risk management to manage the portfolios performance, commercial opportunities and credit risk;
    • Create and maintain solid relationships with other relevant ING departments and stakeholders. 
    • Manage/optimize the data quality and the credit- and operational risks of the assigned portfolio;
    • Maintain, build and enhance internal and regulatory reporting;
    • Management of collateral including regular valuations, and monitoring of insurance and real estate taxes;
    • Construction loan administration including regular review of draw requests internally or through coordination with external providers;
    • Manage cash collateral accounts linked to existing collateral including funding of draw requests;
    • Regular distribution of borrower reporting and general coordination with co-lenders on syndicated facilities;
    • Respond to ad hoc internal requests on portfolio composition and exposure.

  • Support change initiatives within the wider ING Wholesale Banking community

  • Monitor and identify market developments and proactively manage their potential impact on the portfolio
  • Support and coordinate between Portfolio Management / Origination in order to ensure timely and accurate response to internal (CAS) and external regulatory controls and audits by providing the required insights, reports and samples and by participating in the dialogue if so requested
  • Stay up-to-date on organizational operating policies and procedures (i.e. Risk, Legal, etc.) to ensure appropriate protocols are implemented and followed, and facilitate accordingly
  • Assist the Sector team in the execution of amendments and refinancings on an as-needed basis

Profile:

Qualifications / Education:

BA/BS in finance/economics/accounting/management/engineering (or similar); CFA a plus

Experience / Knowledge:

  • Minimum of 3 years in a comparable position in the financial services industry and experience in working with complex finance structures

Competencies:

  • Strong financial and credit analysis capabilities
  • Knowledge of the industry and experience with real estate finance structure
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task by working effectively on multiple projects and assignments simultaneously
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook (proficiency with Argus a plus)
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal communication and writing skills
  • Highly motivated, team player, proactive with a strong work ethic and integrity
  • Understanding of risks associated with the current real estate market
  • Knowledge of Legal Documentation
