Financial Institutions Lending Internship - Wholesale Banking

The unit is part of Wholesale Banking (WB) Lending and works exclusively for and with the FI Sector organization. FI Lending represents an anchor product for cementing client relationships with banks and non-bank financial institutions such as insurance companies, asset managers and funds.

The team

The team has global coverage and manages and executes the full value chain of lending to financial institutions, from risk rating, analysis, preparation of credit applications to the tailoring, negotiation and signing of loan documentation. FIL partners with many different stakeholders including Relationship Management (Parent Account Managers), Trade Finance Services, Financial Markets, FI Advisory, Risk, Legal, Corporate Audit Services, and Lending Execution to ensure customer expectations are met and exceeded.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Responsible for tracking and following up on approval conditions set by Risk Management (incl. stakeholder management).
  • Supporting role in the execution and in-life management of standard and complex lending transactions.
  • Work both independently and collaboratively as a team member. You need to be able to manage your own work and priorities will be set by your manager.
  • Support transaction managers with in-depth counterparty and industry credit risk analyses covering bank and non-bank financial institution counterparties.
  • Ensure the consistent use of Vantage applications, ING policies, and make sure regulations product requirements and data quality are applied and of the highest standard.
  • Effective representation towards our stakeholders, including maintaining good relationships, sourcing information and clearly communicating developments and managing expectations on delivery.
  • Active participation and cooperation in various potential projects (e.g. stemming from Basel IV) within FI Lending and with related stakeholders, e.g. Risk Management.
  • Maintain a user-friendly process handover manual describing the above tasks.

Knowledge and experience:

  • Strong academic credentials-University degree
  • Fluent English skills (verbal and writing)

Other:

  • Registered at a university in The Netherlands during the internship
  • Available from July 2025 for a period of 6 months (preferred)
