Financial Markets (FM) is the Bank’s gateway to the professional markets around the world. Our primary function is to service the needs of ING’s clients with products, services, and guidance. FM aims to be a significant player in our market leader & challenger markets, with an additional presence in all major international markets and specialist expertise in selected emerging markets and products.

The opportunity

We are looking for an experienced and inspiring IT Area Lead for the Competitive Pricing/ Pricing Core area in Wholesale Banking (WB) Tech/Financial Markets & Group Treasury (FM>) tribe. You will lead a diverse team of highly skilled Engineering Leads and Engineers, where we expect all the people within the Squads to take responsibility when it comes to realizing value for ING and its customers.

You act as an ambassador for IT to all stakeholders within or outside of FM> through frequent interaction and alignment. You are part of the FM>/Competitive Pricing Management Team, reporting directly to the IT Lead WB Tech/FM>/Competitive Pricing.

Core Pricing area build components that provide data and core functionalities, available via APIs, to most of Competitive Pricing/Pricing Consumer applications, which requires those components to be highly reliable, scalable and adaptable for various usage contexts.

FM> Tribe & Competitive Pricing Area

The FM> Tribe is responsible for all run and change related to IT systems (90+) used by Financial Markets & Group Treasury. The Tribe is divided into six Areas where Competitive Pricing is the biggest by size and is responsible for all IT systems and deliveries linked to Pricing and Risk systems. These systems are used by Front Office Trading for doing pre deal pricing and for managing intraday risk whereas Risk Management department uses these systems to manage end of the day risk (Credit and Market Risk). The biggest system in the Area is ING Pricing Architecture (IPA), an inhouse system being built for Front Office and Risk Management users for managing intraday and end of the day risk across all asset classes.

The team

As IT Area Lead you are responsible for around 110 Engineers and their Engineering Leads, located in Belgium, India, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, and Singapore, working on 3 global applications and platforms serving ING users across the globe. The Pricing Core Area is responsible for FM data collection, aggregation, distribution and core pricing capabilities, all of which requires understanding the data and context in which it is used. Close collaboration with Product Area Lead and Product Managers is essential in this regard.

Role and responsibilities

  • Hold the IT Custodianship including reliability, cost effective change delivery, service quality, IT Risk in line with internal and external requirements. 
  • Develop and execute the digital strategy for FMs Pricing and Risk Management applications, in line with FM> and Wholesale Banking business strategy, leveraging ING’s global platform and services and Competitive Pricing Core capabilities and APIs. 
  • Cultivate strong working relationships with global FM> business stakeholders, WB Tech colleagues and members of the global and local Tech community. 
  • Drive innovation by leading the development of new ideas, solutions, and products through decisive actions.
  • Lead the adoption of ING’s Way of Working, enhancing the IT maturity in practices, processes and engineering. 
  • Manage relationships with key suppliers and vendors. 
  • Engage and develop ING staff, fostering craftmanship to maintain a highly skilled and motivated workforce.

About you

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering.
  • IT leader with 6+ years’ experience in IT management roles.
  • Recent Software Engineering experience, preferably in creating highly scalable mission-critical applications and/or managing commercial off-the-shelf-software.
  • Collaborative team player, with excellent communication skills to work seamlessly with ease with your business stakeholders.
  • Passion for and proven track record of working in an Agile BizDevOps environment.
  • Must have worked with a geographically complex organization at scale with ability to embrace diverse multicultural teams and a highly customer-focused outlook.
  • Proven track record in finding, growing, and promoting talent.
  • An excellent understanding of how to organize internal software development and operations effectively.
  • Knowledge of network architectures, software architectures, cloud computing, and database management.
  • Having a continuous improvement attitude.
  • On top of trends as technology changes and a strong technical vision for the future.
  • Understanding of FM business as well as familiarity with Financial Market instruments, their pricing, market data feeds is a strong plus.
  • Knowledge of financial and non-financial regulations relevant for IT systems to comply with legal requirements (MiFID, GDPR, Basel IV, etc.) is a strong plus.
