Internship at Acquisition Finance

ING Acquisition Finance (AF) NL & DACH is looking to hire an Intern. This is a challenging opportunity for a dynamic student to join the AF team in Amsterdam.

The AF team is part of Capital Markets & Advisory (CMA) and supports financial sponsors by providing various debt instruments to either acquire new businesses (‘leveraged buy-outs’) or to refinance/recapitalise their existing portfolio companies. The financing provided by the AF team is of a highly structured nature, usually taking the form of senior secured loans, but also often involving (subordinated) second lien debt and high yield bonds, and with the financings typically including undrawn, committed working capital, and/or capex and acquisition lines. Many of the transactions are underwritten and subsequently sold down to the institutional market, which implies frequent co-operation with, among others, ING’s Loan Capital Markets, High Yield Debt Capital Markets, Agency and Ratings Advisory teams.

Part of a global team of 100+ professional across ten locations in EMEA, USA and APAC, the AF NL & DACH team originates and executes leveraged transactions for financial sponsor-owned clients located in the Benelux and DACH, with >€25m EBITDA. ING AF is consistently ranked among the top EMEA / Benelux leveraged finance banks, with AF Netherlands being awarded the Best Acquisition Finance Provider in the Netherlands by the M&A community for 6 years in a row.

Role and responsibilities

  • Assisting in financial modelling and structuring of new transactions;
  • Contributing to the preparation and processing of internal credit applications;
  • Performing market analyses and updating databases;
  • Supporting the AF portfolio team in managing the existing portfolio of AF transactions, process clients’ amendment and waiver requests, preparing of annual credit reviews and achieving internal approvals;
  • Assisting to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements including performing KYC related tasks
  • Monitoring of market developments and identifying opportunities; and
  • Assisting in the preparation and delivery of marketing pitches.

You work in a professional, deal-driven environment with small and highly committed deal teams. The AF NL & DACH team consists of 24 FTE including origination and portfolio. Key attributes of the team are creativity, diversity and complexity that make this business an area particularly suited for team players with strong analytical skills, tenacity, eye for detail and commercial drive combined with an ability to perform under tight deadlines. 

How to success

  • Master or Bachelor (second or third year) student with a strong interest in Acquisition Finance;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • High ambition and energy level;
  • Organisational and project management skills;
  • Fluency in business English and ideally oral proficiency in Dutch or German;
