As an intern, you will help design, build, evaluate, and scale AI-powered software engineering agents that support activities across the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). You will work on real-world engineering challenges and explore how Large Language Models (LLMs), Agentic AI, multi-agent systems, orchestration frameworks, and modern software engineering practices can improve productivity, quality, knowledge sharing, and software delivery.

The team

You will join the Engineering team within ING's Credit Risk domain, working on the modernization of business-critical applications and the adoption of AI-assisted software engineering practices.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Design AI agents across SDLC phases (Intake, Refinement, Design, Development, Testing, Deployment, Operations) that can be applied across a wide range of business and technology domains, to support developers, testers, BA’s and architects.
  • Define agent responsibilities, inputs, outputs, guardrails, and evaluation criteria.
  • Create prompt libraries, agent definitions, instructions, skills and reusable engineering workflows.
  • Evaluate accuracy, consistency, and usefulness of agent outputs.
  • Measure productivity and quality improvements.
  • Support development of governance and responsible-AI practices for engineering agents.
  • Present findings, demos, and recommendations to engineering teams and stakeholders.
  • Work closely with engineers, architects, product owners, and engineering leaders.
  • Participate in technical discussions, design reviews, and innovation initiatives.

How to succeed

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Passion for AI and modern software engineering.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Affinity with any programming language (preferably Java), CI/CD, Docker and database concepts.
  • Experience with GitHub Copilot (Agents, Skills, custom Instruction files) or comparable agentic coding tools and Model Context Protocol (MCP) is preferred.
  • You are familiar with LLMs (e.g. Claude, Gemini, …), RAG systems, Prompt engineering, and other Agentic AI concepts, including multi‑agent systems and orchestration frameworks.
