Growing our Primary Mobile Customers is one of ING’s primary goals in our strategy for 2028.
You will be at the heart of this mission, where you will be responsible for creating the vision for technology within the Product Value Space and integrating it into the roadmap.
With the Product Lead and Architect, you will define strong IT solutions with stability and security by design.

Your role & work environment

You are an energetic chapter lead with expertise in software engineering and people management, as well as an affinity for building critical applications. You are a Senior Java Engineer, and this will be your role in the squad for 50% of your time. The other 50% you spend on building up expertise in your chapter, developing your chapter members, and working with your peers to overcome challenges and collectively do a better job. You co-create the area vision and effectively resource the tribe and squads.

The people in your chapter are as ambitious as you, and you like to transfer your expertise to them and feel satisfaction from coaching (both professionally and personally) your colleagues. You are ambitious with what you and your chapter want to achieve. You encourage your chapter members to improve their skills continually. You speak up and challenge the status quo.

You will work in a dynamic and challenging environment of the Daily Banking tribe, where you will support and build further on the digitalization strategy. Your key responsibilities

  • Creating and safeguarding the professional culture
  • Actively participate in embedding the new way of working according to Agile principles (ING WoW).
  • Function as an ambassador for cultural change and advocate the 'organization doing' principles rather than ‘organizational talking’ ones.
  • Put in place a culture of self-development and high-performing teams.
  • Lead by example in Software Engineering and with a whole ownership mindset

Manage and achieve IT maturity and the squad's mission

  • Spend approximately 50% of the time working as a Software Engineer.
  • Have an up-to-date vision regarding IT expertise and keep abreast of developments inside and outside of ING.
  • Stay one step ahead in the domain of expertise and apply learnings in your specific context,
  • Define and ensure the application of standards in your area of IT expertise.
  • Organize regular meetings to share relevant insights/developments in your IT expertise with members of your chapter and possibly others.

People and Chapter management

  • Be responsible for the personal development and evaluation of the chapter members based on input from colleagues.
  • Encourage chapter members to develop themselves and provide opportunities for them to do so (e.g., offering training).
  • Lead by using the data-driven approach
  • Provide coaching for professional and personal development. Constantly ensure the development of individual members' expertise.
  • Identify top performers and take action at an early stage for underperformance.
  • Support talent acquisition and retention management activities (e.g., interview applicants)
  • Discuss resource planning for squads and chapters with the Tech Area Management Team.
  • Define and improve the chapter plan

Delivery

  • Be a key member with a whole ownership mindset of the Squad Master, Chapter Lead, Engineering Lead, and Product Lead sessions, where ways to optimize performance and improve the capabilities of the squad are discussed

How to Succeed:

You have strong technical skills:

  • At least 10 years of experience in the Java ecosystem
  • You have a good understanding of Software Architecture
  • Experience and thorough understanding of continuous integration and delivery
  • You have experience in implementing test strategies  (e.g., JUnit, Selenium, Cucumber)
  • You are familiar with Monitoring solutions (Kibana, Grafana)
  • You have experience with the container platforms (DevSecOps)
  • You can discuss with your stakeholders and product owner about features and stories and can translate these into software with real business value

You have Soft skills and a mindset:

  • Good communication
  • Proactive attitude, always on the lookout for improving our way of working
  • You are easy to get along with and enjoy collaborating with others.
  • You think in terms of solutions by analyzing facts and information instead of looking for excuses
  • Analysis capabilities and testing abilities
  • Analytic mindset, Data-driven steering
  • Easily manage the context-switching
