We are looking for an experienced, visionary, hands-on, people-oriented lead to drive the reliability and continuous improvements of the financial accounting solutions, and optimising end-to-end accounting flows throughout the entire organisation. You will steer a large cross-border team and collaborate with various key stakeholders (predominantly within COO Finance and the CFO organisation in head office and countries, but also the business in Wholesale Banking and Group Treasury). You will be reporting into the Bank’s COO for Finance.

In short, this is an extra-ordinary opportunity to be impactful to the Bank with visibility to the most senior stakeholders in ING as well as external stakeholders.

The role includes developing a vision for the central financial accounting capabilities, translating it into concrete implementation strategies and roadmaps, and actively enabling business growth and transformation agendas.

You will be located in Amsterdam with direct steer on teams Amsterdam and ING Hubs in Poland and Philippines. 

Your role and work environment

COO Finance (COOF) is an independent unit reporting into ING’s CFO and COO. It is accountable for executing ING Finance and COO strategy to evolve towards one global digital bank. The COOF mission is to enable excellence in Finance with real time business insights, derived from state of the art technologies, optimal use of data and highly effective operations.

As Tribe Lead Financial Accounting you will be working with the leadership team of COO Finance on large end-to-end transformation initiatives with the aim to establish robust technology solutions and corresponding processes to cater for timely, accurate, complete and auditable accounted data for various external and internal reporting purposes.

Your teams

You will lead a number of product leads and their teams to develop, implement and/or maintain products and services. You are responsible for setting the long-term strategy and leading the Tribe Financial Accounting organisation in achieving its (long term) objectives. Responsible for the execution of all activities of this organisation in Netherlands, ING Hubs and with our SSI partners in India, including risk & control activities to remain in control of risks and keeping the bank safe.

The Product teams in scope of the Financial Accounting are:

  • Lending & Trade Finance Accounting: This team is responsible for the onboarding of countries & improvements of the accounting for lending & trade products.
  • FM, GT, Transaction Banking Accounting: This team is responsible for the onboarding of countries and improvements of the accounting for financial markets, treasury and transaction banking products.
  • FM New Products: This team is responsible for the implementation of new financial market products in the central accounting solutions.
  • Retail Products Accounting: This team is responsible for the onboarding of countries and improvements of the accounting for Retail banking products.
  • Accounting Core Capabilities: This team is responsible for maintaining, building and changing the  current and target central product and general accounting and ledger solutions.
  • GPC Accounting Data Delivery: This team is responsible for maintaining, building and changing financial accounting data solutions and pipelines in support of the other product areas in Tribe Financial Accounting.

Your key responsibilities

As Tribe Lead you take responsibility for

  • Co-creating the strategy of COO Finance based on the COO and business strategies.
  • Shape and lead the execution of the strategy of your area of responsibility based on the COO Finance strategy.
  • Lead transformation initiatives, including implementing AI strategies in your tribe, to evolve business processes.
  • Developing a multiyear vision and implementing the target Financial Accounting system architecture and processes
  • Streamlining the requirement setting and delivery planning for new change and transformation initiatives
  • Developing the necessary skills and capabilities for straight-through and fully digital accounting processes
  • Staying safe, reliable and compliant on your products and services.
  • Continuously working on ways to innovate and improve your products and services
  • People leadership and driving people development, employee engagement and diversity in your organisation.
  • Actively engaging and aligning strategies, demand and priorities with (senior) stakeholders in Finance, risk and business organisations.

You have a proven track record and the following skills:

  • Master Degree (University / Postgraduate) in Accounting or Controlling
  • 10+ years of experience in management and leadership
  • 10-15+ years of experience in Banking and Financial Accounting
  • Deep knowledge in banking products and financial accounting principles
  • Affinity with technology implementation and leading Tech teams (dev/ops)
  • Sourcing experience and leading cross border teams
  • Strategic Planning
  • Products/Services Management and Development
  • Managing (complex) change
  • Stakeholder management
  • Building effective teams and drive engagement
  • Drive results and instill trust
