Chapter Lead Engineer – Global Signing

Enterprise Content & Automation (EC&A) BE

Your role

This is your opportunity to shape a multidisciplinary chapter, develop talented people, and influence how EC&A delivers sustainable solutions for one of its global products.

As Chapter Lead Engineer for Global Signing within Enterprise Content & Automation Belgium (EC&A BE), your focus is to develop the people in the chapter and enable dependable delivery across the squads. You align skills and capacity with priorities, foster a healthy engineering culture, and strengthen accountability for commitments, quality, and operational stability.

Global Signing is the trusted digital gateway that turns customer and employee decisions into secure, legally binding agreements. It enables critical journeys, from onboarding and lending to mortgages and investments, to be completed seamlessly and with confidence. By strengthening trust, compliance, speed, and efficiency across ING, the product has a direct impact on how the bank serves customers and grows digitally.

About EC&A BE

Enterprise Content & Automation Belgium (EC&A BE) is part of the Global Tribe Enterprise Content & Automation (EC&A). EC&A delivers reusable content, document management, signing, archiving, workflow, and automation capabilities across ING. Products are consumed across Retail Banking, Wholesale Banking, Business Banking, and Group Functions and are delivered through a global operating model spanning Belgium, the Netherlands, and engineering hubs.

Our ambition is to simplify the technology landscape, increase re-use of global capabilities, improve delivery quality, strengthen resilience, and leverage automation and AI to create seamless customer and employee experiences.

What you'll do

Lead and develop the people in the chapter

  • Coach and develop engineers through clear expectations, recognition, constructive feedback, and meaningful growth opportunities.
  • Build an inclusive chapter culture that supports psychological safety, ownership, collaboration, and sustainable performance.

Enable dependable delivery and operational stability

  • Turn agreed priorities into clear capacity, staffing, and delivery plans across the squads.
  • Make progress, dependencies, risks, and impediments visible. Balance delivery commitments with regulatory, platform, technical-debt, and stability needs.
  • Align expectations and resolve issues with Product Leads, Architects, Engineering Leads, and Squad Leads.

Enable engineering effectiveness

  • Develop the skills and practices needed for secure, compliant, reliable, and maintainable signing services.
  • Promote automation, observability, resilience, security by design, modernization, and continuous improvement.
  • Bring the chapter and delivery perspective into roadmap discussions and the development of achievable plans.

How to succeed

We hire smart people like you for your potential. Our biggest expectation is that you'll stay curious, keep learning, take ownership, and help others grow.

You bring:

Leadership and delivery

  • Proven people leadership in software engineering, with strong coaching, talent development, succession, and recruitment capabilities.
  • A people-centred approach that fosters empowerment, inclusion, psychological safety, and sustainable performance.
  • Experience coordinating delivery across multiple squads, including capacity, priorities, dependencies, risks, and commitments.
  • Strong stakeholder management and the ability to align expectations and remove impediments across organizational boundaries.

Engineering foundation

  • A solid software engineering background that supports effective coaching and informed delivery decisions.
  • A practical understanding of distributed systems, APIs, cloud-native architecture, DevOps, resilience, security, and modernization.

Additional advantage, not a requirement

  • Experience with electronic signatures, digital signing platforms, or regulated digital journeys is a bonus—not a requirement. Curiosity and the ability to learn about the Global Signing domain matter more.

What we offer

This role offers a distinctive opportunity to grow as a people and delivery leader while helping a global product expand its reach across ING.

  • A visible role with the autonomy to shape chapter culture, skills, and ways of working.
  • Broad exposure to senior product, technology, and engineering stakeholders across ING's international network.
  • Meaningful impact on secure and seamless digital journeys for customers and employees.
  • Continuous learning and collaboration with an international, inclusive product and engineering community.

The team

Your chapter supports Global Signing, a growing product that enables customers and employees to complete digital agreements securely. As more countries and business lines adopt the product, you will help the team build the capabilities and delivery confidence needed for that growth.

You will work with Product Leads, Architects, Engineering Leads, Squad Leads, and engineers in Belgium, the Netherlands, and global hubs. This gives you access to a broad network while keeping your impact tangible: developing people, strengthening the chapter, and enabling teams to deliver services used across ING.
