Job Overview

Join ING as a Chapter Lead (SAVP Level), you will manage a team of talented engineers to deliver high-quality software solutions and services. Responsible for teams of 10 to 12 engineers, the Chapter Lead ensures that all projects are delivered to the highest standard with excellent stakeholder service. You foster productivity, achievement of goals, and technical advancement.

Chapter Leads are expected to continue writing code and developing software for automation, tooling, or application development as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Capability Development

  • Direct manager for a team of 10–12 engineers across different technology stacks.
  • Set team objectives and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Provide regular performance feedback and corrective actions when necessary.
  • Identify training needs and work with Principal Engineers/Tech Leads on development.
  • Mentor and coach engineers.
  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, and training of new talent.
  • Ensure alignment with company policies, training, and compliance standards.

Delivery

  • Collaborate with customers and teams to define requirements.
  • Ensure delivery of high-quality software and support for operational solutions.
  • Foster strong partnerships with business, infrastructure, and key stakeholders.
  • Analyze issues, risks, and support data-driven decision making.
  • Remove bottlenecks and improve system performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Manage resources and priorities effectively.
  • Promote cross-team collaboration.
  • Work with Product Owners and Chapter Engineering Leads (CJEs) to plan backlogs and adapt priorities in agile environments.
  • Coordinate with operations and management on planning and resourcing.
  • Maintain strong vendor and customer relationships.
  • Report regularly to Area Leads on achievements and risks.

  Practice & Craftsmanship

  • Collaborate with Area Leads, Chapter Leads, Principal Engineers, and Tech Leads to implement best practices.
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts across teams.
  • Improve engineering tooling, methodologies, and delivery processes.

Key Capabilities/Experience

  • Excellent stakeholder management.
  • Independent decision-making with strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to influence, strategize, and navigate ambiguity in business priorities.
  • Professional maturity, ownership mindset, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Deep knowledge of industry-standard best practices, SDLC, and agile methodologies.
  • Experience in metrics-driven delivery and process improvement.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.
  • Ability to guide teams through all stages of delivery—from requirements to deployment.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have

  • Proficiency in Java 8 or higher (Java 11+ preferred).
  • Strong experience with Spring and Spring Boot frameworks.
  • Familiarity with code versioning tools (preferably Git).
  • Experience in test automation frameworks like JUnit, Mockito, etc.
  • Knowledge of RESTful API development.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Good to Have

  • Experience with database technologies such as SQL, JPA, Hibernate.
  • Working knowledge of Microservices Architecture, Containerization, and Orchestration.
  • Experience with CI/CD platforms like Azure DevOps, and tools like Maven.
  • Agile mindset and experience working in agile environments.
