Job Overview

  • As a Database Engineer (AVP), you will be reporting to a Chapter Lead and collaborate with fellow engineers both within PH and across other countries to deliver multi-tenant Oracle Database Services and self-service capabilities in the Private Cloud Domain.

  • Database Engineers work closely with various DevOps teams to ensure high availability and compliance within the Data Services Area of ING.

  • The Oracle Database as a Service (Oracle DBaaS) Team is responsible for managing Oracle databases and their hardware. In this role, you will oversee the deployment, maintenance, and optimization of Oracle databases and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, maintain, and optimize CI/CD pipelines.

  • Conduct thorough testing of Oracle releases.

  • Develop, maintain, and improve scripts.

  • Deploy new Oracle Homes.

  • Manage Oracle database upgrades, migrations, and capacity planning.

  • Identify and resolve system anomalies and resource bottlenecks in Oracle environments.

  • Optimize database performance through operational enhancements.

  • Analyze and troubleshoot incidents, providing timely resolutions to minimize downtime.

  • Participate in risk assessments and implement mitigation activities as needed.

  • Regularly attend and contribute to meetings discussing projects, issues, and new ideas.

  • Create and assist in the documentation of solutions, processes, and best practices.

  • Contribute to the definition and maintenance of technical standards and guidance for the team and chapter.

Key Capabilities/Experience

  • Experience with Oracle RDBMS, including RAC and DataGuard.

  • Experience in managing multi-tenant Oracle environments.

  • Experience in managing Oracle databases (CDB, PDB) and Exadata components, including compute nodes, storage nodes, InfiniBand switches, Grid Infrastructure, and Backup Appliance (ZDLRA).

  • Experience in database optimization, schema refinement, indexing, and query tuning.

  • Experience in designing and working with data models (e.g., star schema, snowflake schema, data normalization).

  • Experience in implementing high availability and fault tolerance configurations.

  • Proficiency with database monitoring tools.

  • Experience in implementing disaster recovery or switch over mechanisms.

  • Experience scripting with Ansible or Bash.

  • Experience in building and running CI/CD pipelines, preferably using Azure DevOps.

  • Experience in working in an agile environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in managing multi-tenant database environments and hardware components.

  • SQL fluency for query tuning and refinement.

  • Proficiency with database monitoring tools.

  • Strong understanding of database high availability, fault tolerance, and performance optimization principles.

  • Basic understanding of risk management and compliance standards.

  • Proficiency in scripting.

  • Experience in building and running CI/CD pipelines.

  • Strong understanding of Agile-Scrum methodology.

  • A proactive mindset, always seeking opportunities to improve processes and workflows.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and easy to get along with.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a cross-cultural team environment.

  • Strong dedication to servicing and assisting consumers while strictly avoiding technical debt.

  • Excellent command of the English language.
