IT Operations Engineer

The HR, Finance & Reporting engineering team, is seeking an experienced and dynamic IT Operations Engineer to be a part of our IT Operations team within the business domain of HR, Finance and Reporting.  This role is pivotal in ensuring the smooth functioning of our IT environment through proactive monitoring, effective incident management, and continuous operational improvement practices. The ideal candidate has a critical mindset, is passionate about solving problems to minimise to its best customer impact, possess technical expertise, is an excellent team player, and a commitment to operational excellence.

Role Overview:
The IT Operations Engineer ensures the stability, availability, and performance of the applications across multiple technologies, including Java-based applications, PeopleSoft ERP, Data Warehouse platforms, SaaS solutions and Cognos Reporting. This role focuses on proactive monitoring, incident resolution, and continuous improvement of operational processes to deliver a seamless experience for business users.

Key Responsibilities

  • Application Availability & Monitoring
    • Implement and maintain end-to-end monitoring for critical applications and infrastructure, to ensure system reliability.
    • Enhance and manage dashboards to track system health, performance, and availability.
  • Support Finance closings
    • Key focus on ensuring a seamless monthly/quarterly/yearly finance closing by meticulous planning, execution and monitoring of operational tasks and ensuring prompt support in case of issues.
  • Incident Management
    • Act as the first point of escalation for application-related incidents.
    • Perform root cause analysis and coordinate resolution to restore the services within agreed SLAs.
    • Drive eradication of recurrent issues by identifying systemic issues, automating detection and remediation
    • Review and propose SLOs/SLIs, alerts, and dashboards to prioritize business‑critical signals; reduce noise with correlation and enrichment (including AI where justified) based on data. 
  • Problem Management
    • Identify recurring issues and drive permanent fixes through structured problem management.
    • Collaborate with development teams to implement and track structural solutions.
  • Change Management
    • Review, validate, and execute application changes in compliance with ITIL processes.
    • Ensure proper risk assessment and rollback planning for all changes.
  • Operational Excellence
    • Maintain operational documentation, runbooks, and SOPs.
    • Continuously improve monitoring, alerting (via SEM), and automation to reduce manual effort.
    • Support Disaster Recovery (DR) & Business Continuity Planning (BCP)
  • Cross-Technology Support
    • Provide operational support for Java applications, PeopleSoft ERP, Data Warehouse systems, and SaaS platforms.
    • Coordinate with multiple teams to ensure smooth integration and performance across technologies.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change Management).
  • Strong experience on Oracle DBMS, Unix shell scripting
  • Experience with job schedulers (ControlM, Opswise, Tivoli etc.), operationalmonitoring tools (e.g., ELK stack, Splunk etc.) and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana)
  • Familiarity with Java application environments, ERP systems (PeopleSoft), Data Warehousing, Reporting tools (Cognos, SAP BO, etc.)and SaaS solutions.
  • Ability to analyse logs, troubleshoot performance issues, and coordinate with development teams.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Knowledge of automation scripting (Python, PowerShell or similar) is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Certifications in ITIL, Cloud platforms (preferably Azure), or Monitoring tools.

  • Strong stakeholder communication and ability to present technical information clearly.
  • Collaboration across geographies and time zones.
  • Excellent team player with analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities effectively.
