As a Collection Specialist, you play a key role in supporting customers facing financial challenges, helping them regain stability through clear guidance, empathy, and responsible decision‑making. Your work ensures clients can stay a step ahead, while protecting the bank’s financial health.

About the Team

You’ll join the PI‑BB (Private Individuals & Business Banking) area, working in a team that collaborates closely to support customers through important financial moments.

Your Day‑to‑Day

In this role, you help clients understand their financial situation, identify the root causes of payment issues, and agree on solutions that support their long‑term financial stability. Your blend of financial judgement and human understanding truly makes a difference — every conversation is a chance to offer clarity, support, and direction.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Managing outbound and inbound phone communication with clients

  • Preventing future delinquency by offering clear guidance and timely support.

  • Informing clients about payment obligations and the implications of falling behind.

  • Establishing realistic payment commitments and monitoring progress.

  • Providing accurate, transparent explanations regarding ING’s collection procedures.

  • Assessing each client’s risk of non‑payment and recording essential information in internal systems.

  • Applying tailored negotiation techniques to achieve full and timely recovery of outstanding amounts.

  • Maintaining an empathetic, calm, and solution‑oriented tone during all interactions.

  • Ensuring confidentiality and compliance with ING policies and internal standards.

  • Collaborating closely with colleagues, sharing insights and advising on sensitive cases.

  • Escalating special situations promptly to support sound decision‑making.

What You Bring to the Team

  • Experience in customer‑facing roles within banking, collections, or credit management.

  • Strong listening skills and the ability to understand diverse financial situations.

  • A proactive, responsible, and solution‑oriented approach.

  • Strong financial analysis, profiling, and root‑cause identification abilities.

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, paired with empathy and professionalism.

  • Analytical thinking and the ability to manage complex scenarios independently.

  • Good knowledge of Retail & Business Banking credit products (secured and unsecured).

  • Educational background in economics, finance, or a related field.

  • Good command of English and solid Microsoft Office capabilities.
