Mission

The PaaS IT Area Lead role is part of the INGs’ Tech Platform Services tribe, with responsibilities on managing and integrating large scale infrastructure products and services for the local OS & Platforms and Middleware squads, thus supporting ING Bank business applications and process, by implementing and operating highly secure and resilient infrastructure solutions.

The role is responsible on translating business functional requirements and technical vision into practical deliverables ensuring scalability, reliability, compliance, and security considering full range of products & services of Global & Local Core Infrastructure, thus supporting organization Cloud journey and Digital by default processes.

On a day-by-day basis the PaaS IT Area Lead is responsible for the operational backlog for the IT4IT assets belonging to PaaS squads considering products lifecycle, by developing among chapters entrepreneurial mindset & culture, capacity and effective way of working.

As well the PaaS IT Area Lead has in scope the development and delivery of “CoE – Centre of Expertise” squads with scope on delivering centralized support to Delivery Areas for Cloud – IPC & Public – solutions and technologies such as middleware, OS and Databases.

As part of the PaaS domain, you will have the opportunity to share your passion with DevOps engineering domains by creating, developing and expanding technical skills with open mind, curiosity to discover new way of thinking, challenging assumptions and making room for diversity.

With your solid technical & business understanding of your Area and people leadership skills, you are overall responsible for the performance and health of the chapters and together with your Team Leads, set the people development path within the chapters to develop the required set of skills.

Your Day-to-Day

  • Lead the development and implementation of strategy for your area, anticipating complex issues, challenges, and opportunities, and ensuring integration with the wider strategy of stakeholders from Delivery Areas – PI, BB & WB – in close alignment with theirs’ Tech representatives, being an trusted partner for the IT Area Leads.
  • You lead by example being a model of sound technical thinking and sophisticated engineering patterns that pertain to distributed systems.
  • You showcase leadership and sound decision-making to your organization, multiplying your effectiveness by teaching others how to lead.
  • Contribute to the development of annual and longer-term business plans by forecasting performance against business key performance indicators
  • Develop business cases for key activities & projects, and estimating the financial and human resources required to deliver performance targets
  • Manage and deliver end-to-end digital programs and initiatives, leveraging agile and design-thinking principles to drive sustainable implementation.
  • Identify and manage stakeholders, finding out their needs, issues and concerns by reacting to these and leading to coordinating the development of stakeholder engagement plans in cross alignment by informing and/or triggering decision making boards
  • Identify shortcomings in existing business practices, then suggest and implement improvements while developing and delivering projects or a work streams within the organization's change management program.
  • Communicate the actions needed to implement the strategy and business plan within the team
  • Transport and explain the relationship to the broader organization's mission, vision, and values by motivating people to commit to these and to doing extraordinary things to achieve goals.
  • Motivate and support the growth of all members of your chapter leads team using equitable approaches to performance management and development that may be differentiated to support each employee's unique needs and preferences to bring out their best and meet business needs.
  • Use the organization's formal development framework to identify the team's individual development needs. Plan and implement actions, including continuing professional development specified by professional or regulatory needs, to build their professional capabilities. Provide informal training or coaching to others throughout the organization in own area of expertise to enable others to improve performance and fulfil personal potential.

What you bring to the team

  • Provable understanding of Infrastructure engineering practices relevant for large scale enterprises performance driven distributed systems, cross-functional support, SRE practices, cloud operating models, BizSecDevOps and Agile way of working framework
  • Sound understanding of E2E cross-functional support, and management of ITSM processes and tools, with experience in managing complex technical setups
  • People management abilities, leading cross-functional teams by applying their diverse skills and perspectives to achieve common goals and addressing performance as a way of continuous improvement of the services and way of working
  • You build proud teams with strong identity by focusing on people development, coaching & mentoring. You convey team members' roles and goals in a compelling way that builds excitement and delivers value to the local ING organization and as well to Global engineering.
  • Strategic mindset by foreseeing ahead future possibilities and the translation into breakthrough strategies. You develop longer-term strategies for your area by supporting Delivery Areas business strategies
  • You can anticipate and balance the needs of multiple stakeholders, while promoting an environment of high ethical standards and cross-cultural sensitivity in working with all stakeholders.
