A day in the life of a Squad Master/Product Owner

Our mission is to become the most recommended mobile-led bank in Belgium. One which makes banking simple and drives financial progress. We are passionate about using technology to make banking frictionless.  

You will continue to drive the evolution of our current account packs, a flagship project that is defining how we create the best value for our customers and for the bank. A balancing exercise to ensure the best customer experience, apply market differentiation and foresee recurrent fee income. Next to this very important strategic aspect, you are also responsible for driving the day-to-day activities of the team members and help them to grow in skillsets and knowledge.

Your daily activities and responsibilities are:

  • Manage your squad’s backlog. Take the lead in Feature intakes, Daily Stand Up, Sprint Plannings, communication to stakeholders, in and outbound QBR requests, retro-sessions, etc.
  • Deep dive in content. Master the vast world of Current Accounts and become ING’s next expert.   
  • You are in the driver seat of shaping your product. The PO of the Current Accounts squad always places the customer at heart while maintaining within ING’s Risk Appetite.
  • Make sure to understand the design of our digital journeys and intervene when necessary in the associated deliveries. Help the team to improve these journeys

As a Product Owner, you will have the opportunity to take a role with high visibility and exposure, interact with many stakeholders and aspects of ING. Put your leadership qualities to the test and contribute to ING’s strategic goals.

Your new team

The current accounts squad consists of Customer Journey Experts. The team is the owner of all business processes of the Current Accounts. Ensuring that changes on all our ING Current Accounts are validated, risk approved and having the best customer & employee experience at hand.

  • Be Proactive. The Product Owner is key in managing the expectations from the squad. Both on the short and long term. Being a step ahead will differentiate yourself from other Product Owners. 
  • Be supportive and a good coach. The Product Owner is key to support its team members whenever they encounter challenges or obstacles.
  • As a Product Owner, communicating within the team is as important as communicating outside of the team. Being clear and concise, with a strong message and confident voice is something we value. 
  • The Current Account Domain has been around for decades. There is a lot to learn and discover. Having a curious mind to look for details is key in succeeding. 
  • Taking informed decisions will be part of your day-to-day job. Having an analytical mindset will influence your stakeholders in steering your product in the right direction. 
  • Take the lead in making sure the correct features are added which have the highest added value. Ownership and accountability are key competences.
