Role and Responsibilities
As an intern, you will contribute to improving the security of our digital customer journeys, with a focus on the login process and related authentication mechanisms. You’ll work alongside engineers and security specialists to explore, design, and prototype enhancements to existing solutions.

Your assignment will involve analysing current flows, identifying opportunities to strengthen security measures, and validating potential improvements. While details will remain abstract at a high level, your work will have real relevance within a highly controlled and professional environment.

The team
Within ING Netherlands, the Fraud department plays a key role in protecting our customers and the bank against evolving threats. We focus on ensuring that digital interactions are secure, reliable, and user-friendly. Our team works on critical capabilities around authentication and customer consent—core elements of a safe banking experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the design and evaluation of authentication and consent-related solutions
  • Analyze user flows and identify areas for improvement in security and usability
  • Contribute to the implementation and testing of security measures in a controlled setup
  • Collaborate with engineers, product owners, and security specialists
  • Document findings and present recommendations to the team

How to succeed

  • You are currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Cyber Security, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • You have an interest in security, authentication, or digital identity
  • At least basic experience with software development (e.g. Java, Kotlin, or similar)
  • Analytical mindset and attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills and a proactive attitude
  • Ability to handle sensitive topics with discretion
