Are you an experienced compliance assurance professional who combines deep expertise with the ability to challenge, influence and drive improvement? Join ING's Compliance Quality Assurance (CQA) team and help strengthen the effectiveness of compliance risk management across Retail Banking and Wholesale Banking. In this senior role, you will not only execute assurance activities, but also help shape methodologies, support colleagues with expert guidance and contribute to the future development of Compliance Assurance within ING Netherlands.

The team

The Compliance Quality Assurance (CQA) team is part of ING's second line Compliance function and is responsible for assessing the quality and effectiveness of the compliance risk control environment. The team provides independent assurance across key compliance domains including Financial Crime Compliance, Conduct & Ethics, Customer Centricity and Data Privacy. Through thematic reviews, process assessments, monitoring activities and quality assurance methodologies, the team helps senior management understand whether compliance risks are effectively managed and controls remain fit for purpose. The team values diversity of thought, curiosity, innovation and strong collaboration across ING Netherlands and Group Compliance.

Roles and responsibilities

As a senior member of the Compliance Quality Assurance team, you will combine hands-on assurance work with thought leadership, stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement of the Compliance Assurance function.

  • Contribute to the planning, prioritisation and execution of the annual Compliance Quality Assurance Plan.

  • Execute thematic and process reviews across Retail Banking and Wholesale Banking products, processes and systems.

  • Support the development and enhancement of ING's risk-based monitoring approach.

  • Coordinate and deliver Compliance Assurance reviews in line with Group Compliance Assurance methodologies and quality standards.

  • Challenge and assess the effectiveness of compliance risk management and control frameworks across a broad range of regulatory topics.

  • Report review outcomes, formulate meaningful observations and ensure timely follow-up through the relevant systems.

  • Act as a trusted advisor and sparring partner for stakeholders across Retail Banking, Wholesale Banking, Compliance Risk Verticals and Group functions.

  • Contribute to the further development of Compliance Assurance methodologies, tooling and procedures.

  • Facilitate knowledge sharing, lessons learned activities and capability building within the Compliance Assurance community.

  • Support governance reporting and provide insights to senior stakeholders regarding assurance outcomes and emerging risks.

  • Provide expert guidance and coaching to team members while promoting high quality assurance standards.

  • You have a university degree or equivalent professional qualification and more than 7 years of experience in Compliance Assurance, Compliance Monitoring, Internal Audit or Risk Management.

  • You bring strong expertise across key compliance domains such as Financial Crime Compliance, Conduct & Ethics, Customer Centricity and Data Privacy, allowing you to challenge risks effectively.

  • You understand Wholesale Banking and Retail Banking products, customer journeys and regulatory requirements, enabling you to provide high-quality assurance across complex environments.

  • You combine analytical thinking with a strong data mindset and can translate data into meaningful and accurate insights. 

  • You actively seek opportunities to improve processes, methodologies and ways of working, bringing an innovative mindset that supports transformation and continuous improvement.

  • You are an experienced stakeholder manager who can confidently engage, influence and challenge stakeholders at different organisational levels.

  • You have excellent English (verbal/written) and communication skills

  • You work independently, demonstrate sound judgement and are comfortable providing assurance that supports decision-making by senior management and regulators.

  • You enjoy sharing expertise, providing constructive feedback and helping colleagues grow and succeed.

  • You are organised, methodical and accountable, while remaining curious, adaptable and open to learning.
