De stageopdracht bestaat uit twee delen:

Analysefase

In kaart brengen welke COBOL-programma’s en processen de grootste bijdrage leveren aan het MIPS-verbruik.
Een functioneel zicht ontwikkelen op deze programma’s: begrijpen welke taken ze uitvoeren en nagaan of bepaalde updates, berekeningen of library-calls nog noodzakelijk zijn.
Beoordelen of functies kunnen worden gecombineerd, vereenvoudigd of verwijderd zonder verlies van functionaliteit.
Bestuderen van bestaande rapportages, monitoringtools en codevoorbeelden om patronen te herkennen (bijv. inefficiënte queries, overbodige berekeningen, suboptimale I/O).

Optimalisatie / Proof of Concept

Identificeren van mogelijke verbeteringen in programmastroom, datatoegang en code-structuur.
Opstellen van een voorstel voor MIPS-reductie met concrete aanbevelingen.
Waar mogelijk: implementeren en testen van één of meerdere optimalisaties in de praktijkomgeving of in een testomgeving.

Leerdoelen voor de student

Kennis en ervaring opdoen met Mainframe-technologie en COBOL-ontwikkeling.
Leren analyseren van performanceproblemen in legacy-systemen.
Inzicht verwerven in de relatie tussen functionele logica en technische efficiëntie.
Ervaring opdoen met het vertalen van theoretische analyse naar praktische verbeteringen.
