The Mission

ING Hubs Romania is looking for a strong developer who is technically passionate, solution-focused and able to design, develop, test, maintain and expand the functionalities of a portal that is used by different clients.

Our global portal serves different clients across 40 countries and for ING employees worldwide. With features like Service Requests and Client Insights, our goal is to empower colleagues to support clients more efficiently while driving client digitalization. At the same time, we are committed to strengthening application resilience by enhancing security, implementing robust quality gates, and improving monitoring and alerting capabilities.


Your day to day

  • Design and develop new backend features using Java & Spring Boot, and improve existing components.

  • Build and maintain integrations using Kafka for asynchronous communication.

  • Write and optimize Oracle SQL queries needed by the application.

  • Perform code reviews, write automated tests (JUnit, Mockito), and contribute to continuous improvement and refactoring.

  • Deploy and operate services in Kubernetes and work with Azure DevOps pipelines for CI/CD.

  • Participate in design discussions, align on solutions with stakeholders, and contribute to technical decisions.

  • Investigate production issues, support incidents, and work on long-term stability and resilience improvements.

  • Collaborate in an Agile environment with developers, product owners, and architects across multiple locations.

What you’ll bring to the team

Must have

  • 5+ years of experience in backend development.

  • Strong knowledge of Java and the Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Web, Data, Security).

  • Experience with messaging systems, ideally Kafka.

  • Basic to intermediate experience with Oracle SQL and relational databases.

  • Experience with Azure DevOps (repos, pipelines) and deploying apps on Kubernetes.

  • Understanding of secure coding principles and general IT security concepts.

  • Comfort working in Linux environments and with CI/CD practices.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Python or other JVM languages.

  • Exposure to performance tuning (Java, SQL, messaging throughput).

  • Familiarity with observability tools (Grafana, Prometheus, ELK).

  • Knowledge of event-driven architectures and DDD concepts.
