The Mission

Within our Payment Products area, we’re looking for an enthusiastic Senior Software Engineer who’s passionate about building high‑quality, scalable user experiences. Our domain sits at the heart of ING: between our core banking systems and millions of end customers. We enable processes such as iDEAL‑Wero, payment initiation, transaction reporting, Betaalverzoek, Insights — and much more — across all ING channels.

You will work in the Open Banking squad, a diverse team developing APIs and front-end journeys that expose ING’s reliable products to the outside world via our developer portal (developer.ing.com). We also own the transaction download front-end, which we aim to significantly uplift in customer satisfaction. Curiosity is key — you’ll have plenty of room to experiment, innovate, and bring your ideas to life.

Your day to day

  • Understand business requirements;

  • Work with standard ING frameworks, tools, and processes;

  • Analyse, code, test, and deliver user stories in line with ING standards, team agreements, and best practices;

  • Maintain up-to-date technical and risk documentation;

  • Provide support to consumers;

  • Share knowledge with colleagues.

What you'll bring to the team

  • University degree in Computer Science, Cybernetics, or equivalent experience (3+ years);

  • Strong team player in an international environment—quality-focused, service-oriented, and eager to learn;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Romanian;

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex or ambiguous issues;

  • Curious and up to date with the latest developments in technology and financial services;

  • Solid understanding of banking, or a strong interest in learning about it. Able to engage with stakeholders and product owners to discuss features and user stories and translate them into software that delivers real business value;

  • Proven track record of successful delivery;

  • Good understanding of software architecture;

  • Experience building applications from scratch is a plus;

  • Experience working in Agile environments, using Agile methodologies and tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence);

  • Understanding of the DevOps concept.

Proficiency in developing applications using:
