Where you shape what's next

What it’s like to work at ING? In short – it’s fun! And that begins with the people who come here to make a difference. ING is made up of brilliant minds, diverse perspectives, and people who roll up their sleeves to think big and get things done. And yes, with the many quirks that make us all human too. It’s a culture that sets us up to deliver on our purpose: empowering people to stay one step ahead in life and in business.

Our culture sets up for success

Ask colleagues what makes ING different and you’ll hear a common theme: the way we work together. We listen and collaborate. We trust each other so we can show up as our full and brilliant selves. And yes, we challenge each other with care and curiosity, so we can raise the bar and drive progress. With sleeves rolled up, we dive into challenges big and small. We take pride in delivering business outcomes, staying curious, and stepping forward with confidence into what’s next.

Our Orange Code

We deal with other people’s money and financial information. Few things in life or business could be more important or more sensitive.

We are responsible

From the projects we finance to the lighting in our offices, we are mindful that every aspect of our business has social and environmental impact.

We are honest

We carefully weigh the impact of our actions and make decisions that are considerate of all involved.

“Only when our people feel trusted and psychologically safe to show up and speak up can we truly accelerate performance and drive impact and results.”
Janine, Global HR Director Retail Banking

Personal growth shaped by you

We believe in a world where everyone has the right to grow in their own way. Our biggest expectation is that you’ll stay curious. Want to go deep in your role, or try something new? Sure can! You’ll bring the drive and we will provide you with the tools and support to make it happen. Because when you keep moving, you progress and grow. And what moves you forward, moves our business forward.

To broaden your skills and grow your career across the organisation, ING offers many different possibilities: think classroom training, e-learnings, attending relevant expertise conferences, doing short-term assignment (STA) in a different country, just to name a few. For career starters, our International Talent Programme (ITP) is a great way to get to know different areas of ING during three rotations and further develop leadership skills.

Work that has an impact

At ING, the work you do matters. What really drives us is empowering people to move forward - from daily banking for millions of customers, financing their first family home, to personalised support for businesses of all sizes. Our customers trust us with their money and data, so it’s on us to keep both safe and secure. Working here means driving progress and contributing to our ambition of putting sustainability at the heart of everything we do.

Making banking safe and secure

ING's operations touch many lives: customers, employees, shareholders, suppliers. Everyone within these groups can, and should, expect us to act with integrity.

The most important factor in keeping customers’ and ING's data safe is our people. Working in Compliance or other departments at ING means you play a key role in safeguarding the integrity and security of the services we provide to customers, employees and society at large.

Sustainability at the heart

We have a role to play in defining new ways of doing business that align economic growth with positive environmental and social impact. We strive for net zero emissions in our own operations. That means making sure our buildings, data centres and how we use transport are in line with the low-carbon economy of the future.

But we can do more. As a global bank with billions flowing through our books, the biggest impact we can make is through our financing, and we are committed to steering our portfolio in line with global climate goals. In practice, steering usually means engaging with our clients to help them make the tangible changes needed to decarbonise the economy. One example of this is by providing sustainability-linked loans and bonds to our clients.

Flexible way of working

Home or office? In most cases, it’s up to you. Our hybrid work setup allows flexibility, as long as you actively engage with and contribute to your team. We empower you to strike the right balance between work and personal life.

Potential to grow

We hire smart people like you for your potential, not your past. Our biggest expectation is that you’ll stay curious. Keep learning and take on more responsibility. In return, we’ll back you to develop into an even more awesome version of yourself. With activities in over 40 countries, there is no shortage of international opportunities for ambitious people who want to make a difference.
